Unlike many of my peers, my life story is slightly different. Many of my peers share the story of living in a single parent home, being homeless, violence, and poverty. However, in my case, living in a two parent household is strange to hear about to my peers. For me, living in a two parent household means more work because of my desire to receive a full scholarship. Upon my research, I noticed that many of my older peers would receive better college financial opportunities because of their life experiences.…

As a child growing up in Rhode Island, the smallest state in the Union, the idea of a vast planet brimming with civilization and culture was more like something out of a fairy tale than it was reality. So, when my father announced that we would be leaving the country to go to Scotland, the home of his and my ancestors, my world began to expand at a rapid pace. This trip could not have been timed more perfectly. The summer of 2007 marked the end of fourth grade, my first year at Saint Mary Academy Bay View.…

I withdrew from two courses during the most recent academic year (Fall 2017 term) in which I received OSAP funding. This reduced my course load to 6 courses and delayed my graduation to the following winter semester where I returned to a full course load by adding the two dropped courses and in the spring 2017 semester, I enrolled in three additional out of pocket to meet my program requirements for graduation.…

At a younger age, I would say I believed that I can only trust myself and my mother, this is because as a little kid my mom would always tell me that there are bad people in the world and that giving them any information about anything can be very harmful. But as I grew up and realized what was actually happening in my country I knew there were millions of others that were suffering against the “bad people” and we could only do something about it if the whole community came together to help. It was at that time when I was about 25, when I started to put some effort into trying to establish more just conditions within my country especially after the implication of extremely high food prices. This is when I started my first strike involving my…

Three years into my high school I hadn't gotten into the state of mind that most over achievers have. I had floated through high school thinking I was trying my very hardest to get good grades and become a consistently studious candidate of my school. However, no matter how hard I tried I failed I gave into all the distractions and used all my obstacles as excuses became frustrated and developed an attitude problem that I had created myself. Being a consistent 2.5 student wasn't satisfying or inspiring. Uniquely enough, I had decided to take challenging courses my junior year.…

In my opinion, there are many various reasons that kept me from performing to the best of my academic ability while I attended my freshman year of college at The University of Oklahoma. I experienced the normal struggles that any regular college student would, but I also dealt with many bigger and tougher trials during the fall semester that eventually carried over into the spring semester, as well. A few weeks before the fall semester ended, I had a huge boulder dropped on my shoulders when I was informed that my parents were getting a divorce after being married for over twenty years. The terrible news that I had received eventually took a huge toll on not only my academic career, but also my personal and family life. My parents had been married my entire life, so when reality finally set in that the decision was not going to change,…
