Personal Narrative: My Political Beliefs

Improved Essays
It was only recently that I have began understanding politics and how the government functions. My government teacher in high school helped educate me on different issues and court cases that have been exposed throughout history and with each subject matter, I began to develop personal opinions on what should or should not happen. Even though I grew up in a fairly conservative neighborhood with people who leaned right teaching most of my classes, I identified as a liberal. Reflecting back, I realize that, the parents that raised me, my personal background, and the people that I surround myself with are all factors that determine which way my political beliefs lean. My parents have had an enormous influence on my life because they are the people that taught me what was right from wrong. I may not have realized it in the process but everything they have taught me to grow as an individual and the way we both respected each other contributed to how I view the world. Typically, people vote the same as their parents because of the way they are raised - I am no different. …show more content…
Historically, Japanese have faced discrimination during World War 2 including being sent to interment camps similar to what the Jewish faced during the Holocaust. Statistically, minorities have voted democratic because democrats typically support progressive movements and are more open to change. While I don’t look at demographic statistics to decide how I want to vote (voting one way because the majority of people like me vote that way), It is interesting to see where people stand based on race, gender, religion, income class, and so

Rick Shenkman seems to know seems to know just how to grab the readers’ attention in his book, Just How Stupid Are We? Facing the Truth About the American Voter. While most readers may disagree with his central arguments, I agree with him. I do believe that, as a whole society, the American people are very uninformed when it comes to politics, government, or any other relatively “uninteresting” topics. It seems as though the American people could actually care less about what is happening in our government and whether the people in power are taking advantage of our ignorance.…

In Lawrence Wright essay, the thesis in “America’s Future is Texas” is that Texas is a politically divided state just like other states of America. However, the Texas legislature is more functional than the United States Congress and more refined than the House of Commons. But a recurrent crop of crackpots and ideologies has fed the state's reputation and proudly retrograde politics (Wright, 2017). Moreover, Wright uses colorful language to describe the politics of Texas and uses rough stories in government figures.…

The riding I am in has been pretty much predominantly conservative for the most part, though now that the conservative MP isn't the same person, a larger opportunity is open for the other parties (NDP has remained the 2nd most popular as far as the last 2 results went). I voted for the NDP at the end, but I was glad that I didn't have to vote strategically as I don't really dislike any particular parties. It is interesting how my family thinks of the Conservative Party, my dad for one claims the Conservatives to be racist, while my aunt (who voted for the Conservatives) showed concerns about marijuana. As for electoral reforms, I don't really see it happening outside of the NDP, but even at that, if it is left up to a referendum to ask…

My typology is Steadfast Conservative, I hold conservative views on most issues that concern our country. One of the biggest influences for my political values come from the three most important men in my life, my dad, grandpa and my husband. They hold very strong opinions on military issues, national security and the four of us are veterans, each experiencing something different but we have a deeper understanding of the issues concerning the military and national security. I do not feel as though the media influences my idea for political values as I do not believe most of what I read but it does sway how I feel at times. Public opinion is very important but as I am conservative, old school thinking and think more like a man I happen to disagree…

In life, people face decisions that can change life, either in a positive way or in a negative one. In my life, there’re some times that I challenged an idea and I’ve got to stop and to think what decision would be the best for me. So, I’ve got to decide either to stay in Brazil or come over to United States, specifically United States, leaving my lovely mother at home. But I have overcome it all so far.…

My non-vote Presidential Election Being the first year that I can actually vote I was quite disappointed in the candidates that were chosen to be elected for the presidential role. During their speeches I heard many errors in the debates they were conversing about, found nothing interesting in the topics either contender chose to talk about and I slowly became impassive. I personally felt like Trump was only running for the presidential election because his dislike towards Barack Obama. Now many will disagree with me on this but think about it, the first thing he wanted to do when he won the presidential election was to remove Obamacare.…

I did attend the Republican debate and it was like some 5 years kids yelling at each other. Yesterday was "Super Tuesday", the day when 11 states held their presidential primaries. Clinton swept through the southern states creating a significant delegate lead over Bernie Sanders. Trump seems invincible now after winning most of the 11 state primaries. I don't know what's happening to America.…

My Political Ideology My political view point is Moderate and neither just Conservative or Liberal. Being Moderate, I side with some issues on either side without fully joining the team. Two topics I agree with on the Conservative side are Pro-Life and Gun-Rights, I feel these two are the most important to myself. On the Liberal side, I focus more on the No Death Penalty Regulation and Legalizing Marijuana. Conservatives tend to dislike change and want things to stay the same or, in some cases, go back to the way things were.…

In the election, I would vote for Green Party. I would vote for them because they seem to keep the environment in mind and have a lot of promises that would positively affect me. One of the things they said they would do is cut tuition fees for students and provide more bursaries for people looking into going into school. This will directly affect me and will make going to secondary school a lot easier for me being in my later years of high school. I can see this also benefitting the country, as it would help people become educated and make further learning more available.…

My family was also a contribution to my political socialization for a while. They too were Democrats. For a long time I voted all Democrats down the ballot, until I realized all the candidates were not for the things I valued. As I grew older I started paying more attention to the media and the opinion and views of other people. I even found myself looking into a situation for myself, especially when I found the issue important to me.…

Being a liberal in the current political atmosphere is rough. Not only do we have an election where the two major party choices are deplorable figures who seem incapable of telling the truth, but the third party candidates either can't pass a geography test or can't stay out of trouble with the police. In the Democratic primary election, liberal candidate, Bernie Sanders, failed to capture the Democratic base and the DNC colluded with the Clinton campaign to secure her victory. In Obama's second term, he failed to pass comprehensive legislation through the partisan Congress. We've had to endure a conservative backlash from the Obama administration, but being liberal has had its moments.…

I find this article to be very convincing. Growing up in a small town It was clear to me that people voted for who their parents voted for. I find it very convincing when the article talks about habits that people pick up from their parents. In my life, most of every habit I picked up was from my parents. Politics was always something we talked about and their views are what I grew up to believe in.…

Political socialization is the learning process through which most people acquire their political attitudes, opinions, beliefs, and knowledge. This is how the people form a political opinion; starting in childhood and continuing through their entire life. Family is the big culprit on starting a child’s political opinion, however, other examples are school, peers and television. Since political socialization starts with family, children tend to perceive the world as their parents do. Whether that be a party affiliation or concerning issues addressed by the parents; children learn most by watching and hearing their parent’s reactions, the same goes for politics.…

I’m normally not one to talk about politics, but, well, this wasn’t a normal election. This presidential election was the first one that I, as a 21-year-old, was able to vote in, and you bet I exercised that right. I requested my absentee ballot, filled it out and overnight-ed it to my home state Florida, hoping that it would make a difference. Come Election Day, I flipped on CNN and vehemently watched the poll statistics pour in, only to find myself utterly shocked as Trump’s votes skyrocketed and Clinton’s stagnated.…
