Personal Narrative: My Plans After High School

Improved Essays
My plans after high school are to further my education by attending college, specifically Pomona College in Claremont, California. While attending Pomona, I will be double majoring in Theatre and Anthropology, the scientific study of various aspects of humans within past and present societies.
The “star educator” that has inspired me through these years is a person I’m pleased I’ve had the opportunity of meeting, Mrs.Trejo, the theatre teacher at Sam Houston. With her help, Mrs. Trejo allowed me to discover who I wanted to be in life, and has motivated me to further my education in theatre and to pursue a career in the entertainment field. My prior career choice was entirely different and I did receive backlash from my family and peers in response

A dilemma that I faced, and still am facing is simply the decision about what I want to do with my life after my high school career. In my freshman year of high school my goal was simply to get through the year in one piece. I was forced to conform to my new environment and all the strict rules that came along with it. Along with that it was the sudden transition from being the "big dogs" as eighth graders at my middle school to being "fresh-meat" in my first year high school. With so much attention placed on me as a freshman like on the varsity basketball team, where I was constantly forced to prove my worth to the coach and the players, to stepping out of my comfort zone and performing in a mandatory play for the rest of the the school as…

I walked into the familiar main entrance of the school, crossing my arms and setting my face into what I thought was an intimidating glare. Although I looked like an angry toddler, with my round face and childish glower, my attitude came across very clearly: I was not happy at all to be back at school. After getting into a huge fight with my friend group earlier that year, I was starting high school essentially friendless. It wasn’t as if I didn’t have another group of people to fall back onto.…

“Choose a career that will always be needed,” my economics teacher said. It was 3:50 p.m and I was here, sitting in the lobby of a clinic thinking about everything and nothing at the same time. My life began to spiral downward before fifth grade began. I found myself an endless loop over summer vacation of waking up, experiencing the day as a blur, sleep, then repeat. This drove me to discover a new way to spend my day. On the television I noticed a recurring advertisement for a game called ‘World of Warcraft’. At first I instilled the mindset that I could spend my time pragmatically but eventually I succumbed to boredom.…

Others see it as a person who uses their creative energy and unleashes it for others to enjoy. To me, the true artist is someone who is able to control their creativity and use it to contribute to the greater good.…

My interest in theatre dates back to middle school. At the time theatre seemed abstract and out of my comfort zone, because it was. However, I soon saw that being out of my comfort zone is empowering, and being abstract allows theatre to bring the world together, just like American Institute for Foreign Study. Throughout high school I continued to be involved in theatre for those reasons, and still enjoy writing plays.…
