My earliest memories involve my father talking joyously about the paper he was working on to my mother. In the years to follow I was included into these conversations, minimally at first, but soon I would be receiving most of it. To my pleasure once I began homeschooling I was almost instantly enrolled in an introductory mechanics class with some laboratory work. Although this class was incredibly fun and intriguing, it was not until I took my first proper physics class with Professor Walter Lewin that I truly fell in love with physics. During the introduction Professor Lewin said something that would stay with me during and following the course, he claimed that during and after this course I would view the world in a completely different manner,

It all began the summer before my sophomore year in high school. I had run over to my aunt's house with my dog as part of my pre-season Cross Country training. As I completed my post-workout stretch, I listened to my aunt ramble on and on about her overgrown garden and insidious weeds. With no experience and, in retrospect, not the right equipment, I offered to help. Within minutes, I found myself immersed in a jungle of ambiguity and a goldmine of opportunity.…

My interest in physics was initially ignited during my sophomore year. I signed up for AP Physics 1, taught by a teacher in his first year, right out of college. His main goal was to encourage students to apply physics to the world around them and identify the relevancy of the course material. I was immediately hooked and I bought book after book about Einstein's Theory of Relativity, the Big Bang, and quantum mechanics. I was eager to learn as much as I could; in doing so, I realized that working in a laboratory setting, conducting experiments and applying equations, is something that I am truly passionate about.…

I can truly remember a lot of school events and encounters that assisted and helped me to achieve and or what helped me to develop my education goals and what helped produce who I am today as a person. The teachers attitude towards me and the materials presented. Also the love that the teachers showed in making sure that I understood and applied the material that I supposed to gain are elements that influence my education and my life today. The superlative significance lesson that I learned is to never give up on a student and my children and for me to do all that I know and can do for my students and children. Our textbook states that “ Clearly, the types of nonparental experiences that children have with other adults influence not only…

My car did not have a lot of friction where the axles and bearings touched in the front. In the back however, it had tape for extra support on the bearings so it did have some friction in certain cases. I used rubber wheels so the car did not have much friction on the ground but, they the wheels did have a lot of traction on the hallway floor. I tried to get the friction on the back wheels to not get as much friction so it would move more freely but, I did not succeed.…

As a child, anything related to the English subject wasn’t my favorite. I hated poetry, I wasn’t an avid reader, and my skills in writing weren’t all that great because of how much I disliked it. Where I lacked in English, however, is where I excelled in Science and Math. However, as the years have passed by, my tastes towards school subjects have altered significantly. I began reading more often, writing became a new pastime, and Science slowly deteriorated into one of my worst subjects.…

A significant opportunity in my life that has had a major impact on me is an organization called Kids Are Scientists Too. KAST is a student-run non-profit corporation that aims to inspire young scholars to be interested in science and learning through fun, interactive science experiments led by passionate teachers. I was one of those passionate teachers. When I first heard of KAST, I immediately knew that I could contribute to the organization. I applied to become the lead at an elementary school, and after I was deemed fit for the role, I was chosen as the lead of a local elementary school.…

I have always had a very concrete way of viewing myself and the world around me. I know that my diaphragm moves up and down during the process of breathing, and I know that when I inhale, my lungs expand, and when I exhale, my lungs contract. I know that a positive buoyancy causes an object to float, and I know that the transfer of energy from the wind to the water on an ocean shore causes waves. These concepts are tangible, but connecting them together like pieces of a puzzle makes the idea abstract. This class opened my eyes to one of many connections between my body and the earth.…

Last year in December when I went running at 5am around my neighborhood, I wasn’t thinking about how cold or dark it was. The peacefulness allowed my mind to wander and question the science behind my surroundings. As I passed a house adorned with Christmas colored lights, I noticed a strand of lights had burned out. The question of why it only had a strand and not all the lights burned out lingered in my mind. It took me a few minutes before I had the aha moment when I remembered being taught about circuits in Honors Physics.…

Imagine living in a fantasy world where everything is pitch perfect the way you wanted to be, but then, you wake up to the harsh reality to feel trapped and animated on the inside. This is how I first view my life story for the last three years. At first, I never thought this class would help me realize who I am nor what I have to value until eight weeks ago. To start off, I have looked at my life in a new light and sees how I should understand others before I judge them, as well as, to understand the importance of morals and values. Everyone has their own values and morals that they believe in to determine what is right and wrong in life, so have I. Not everyone can agree to the same stuff about how one’s should live our life, but instead learn from our value and believe to make our own story in our life.…
