Personal Narrative: My Personality Of Myers-Briggs

Decent Essays
Not only was this assignment interesting, but extremely informative, as well. While I have always known my personality type from Myers-Briggs, I had never actually sat down and analyzed much of it or even my leadership skills, for that matter. As for my leadership skills, they have always been lacking, as I tend to be a pleaser as opposed to being one that feels comfortable having control – it is intimidating and daunting to me. Nevertheless, this is not to be an assessment, but rather an evaluation and here are the results I have found. Circling a few low numbers on the “Survey of Human Services Leadership Skill Sets” on page 9 came as no surprise to me, honestly. As much as I wish I could say I possess all of these skills, it is unrealistic

Who am I? That is a very deep question. I think the only way I can answer that truthfully is by saying, I do not know exactly who I am, but I know who I want to become. I want to become a well rounded individual, someone who everyone likes and looks up too. I want to be someone my family can be proud of.…

Unlike traits approach, skills approach is more coherent with the four components of leadership. Both the three-skill approach (Katz,1955) and skill-based model (Mumford et.al, 2000) discusses the process, influence, groups and common goals in leadership. For instance, emphasis on career and environmental experiences, crystallized cognitive ability and technical skills in skills approach infer that leadership develops with learning, and signifies the process. Furthermore, its focus on knowledge and skills also indicate that such skills can be developed in a person. Likewise, human skills and social judgment skills emphasize on the relation between the leaders and followers and how leader’s ability to influence can help in problem-solving and…

The Myers Briggs Type Indicator was an eye opener for me, not only in the sense of leadership, but in the sense of who I am as a person. After analyzing the results, I was impressed with how much this survey matched my personality. With people having different types of personalities, there is going to be different types of leadership. My four letter personality type is ESFJ. This is a sensing type and stands for: extraverted feeling with sensing.…

Who am I? For some people the answer to this question is simple. They are able to answer this question without much thought. However, while some find solace and pride in answering this thought provoking question, it has always stirred in me a feeling of angst and confusion. These uncomfortable feelings emerged because of my interracial background and upbringing.…

Throughout the majority of my life, I was self-conscious and constantly worried about how I was perceived by others. As a child, I had always felt slightly out of place among my peers. I was just a little too quirky to fit into any of the groups at my school and I was too shy to force my way into one. I could not exactly understand what made me so different from my classmates and I desired more than anything to gain the self-confidence to express myself.…

Some of the most current trait theorists, Zaccaro, Kemp, and Bader (2004) found the following traits to be important to prototypical leaders: cogitative abilities, extroversion, conscientiousness, emotional stability, openness, agreeableness, motivation, social intelligence, self-monitoring, emotional intelligence, and problem solving (pp. 101-124). Other trait theorists from the last century are referenced in Table 1. While examining this list, it appears that many of these traits are personality based. To address the connection between personality and leadership traits, Judge, Bono, Ilies, and Gerhardt (2002) conducted a comparison using the Big Five Personality Factors.…

I also took the Big Five personality assessment and found it to be pretty accurate, and buzz feed quizzes are my favorite! I swear I always take them when they pop up on my social media accounts and I feel like they are pretty accurate when it comes to describing my personality, most of the time that is. I think my favorite one was one "build a pizza and we will tell you about your personality", it was the strangest thing but still fun.…

I was very intrigued with how well this self-assessment depicted my personality. One thing that I found surprising was that I have a Type A personality. I was not familiar with Type-A personality prior to taking this assessment. In my personal life, I am constantly trying to achieve many different tasks in a short period of time. For example, in the month of August I am taking two summer courses at Liberty University, working full time, involved in the United Way 2015 Campaign, working a few hours of overtime per week, involved at my church, planning a wedding, and just purchased a new home.…

In my opinion, this popular personality assessment is not so accurate. It is because, I did this personality assessment multiple times and I always get different results every time I do this OCEAN test. When I did this particular assessment, I got high scores for conscientiousness and extroversion and got lower scores for emotional stability and imagination/intellectual. But this is not the case when I took it last semester in my social psychology class. Does it means that my personality always changes?…

The trait theory of leadership theorizes that personality traits inspires leader development and efficiency in an organization. The trait theory of leadership focused on investigating the mental, physical, and social characteristic of people in order to gain a better understanding of what characteristics are most common among leaders, in which the trait theories of leadership identified the specific personality traits that distinguish leaders from non-leaders. According to Colbert, A. E., Judge, T. A., Choi, D., and Wang, G. (2012), “ the majority of studies have examined the relationship between personality and leadership using self ratings of personality.” Researchers categorize these personality traits into five main factors, which are neuroticisim,…
