When a warrior is fighting in a battle it is essential that he be provided with a shield to protect him from harms way. As college students it is crucial that we are carrying a shield of faith with us throughout our everyday lives, adding more layers to that shield, making it stronger. In Ephesians 6:16 it states, “Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.” There is much wickedness that dwells throughout the world. We need to constantly have our shield of faith accessible, so we are prepared during the times we get pummeled with the evils of the earth. If we have our personal shield of faith to be with us always we will be protected by the fiery darts of the wicked. In a general conference talk L. Tom Perry speaks of a personal experience where he uses his shield to protect himself, he states, …show more content…
It wasn’t until after we were on our way that I discovered this was not the best of company to be in. It was then that I found out the reason they had invited me. It was because they knew of my standards. They knew that I would be sober when it was time to return to the base, and I could guide them back.
As the story continues he parts his way from his marine buddies and finds members of the Church to spend time with that night. Instead of spending the night surrounded by alcohol and an unpleasant environment, he spent time at a ward social strengthening his shield of faith. It is easy to get caught up in the evils of the world and get trapped in Satan’s web of lies. Constantly we all have darts of evil being shot at us trying to tare us down. According to the eleventh chapter of the book of Hebrews, “Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen, it gives us assurance about things we cannot see” (Heb. 11:1, NIV). People apply their faith for a range of reasons:some make use of their faith for material things, while others simply exert their faith to auricularly discern God’s voice. Faith gives us both a positive declaration and confidence. On the other hand, doubt causes both fear and equivocality. Hence, fear and faith cannot co-subsist.…

And finally, Edwards uses the simile of God’s believers flying away like angels, to show how quickly the transition from earth to heaven will be for God’s children, and that the unconverted men will be left behind and sent to Hell to face God’s wrath, if they do not convert. His stance is that , this is the last chance for unconverted individuals to convert, so that they will go to heaven and escape the eternity of torment in Hell and God’s revenge. He uses pathos to create a strong sense of urgency and hopefulness in conversion, and despair for the individuals who did not convert in time. Edwards purpose of his sermon, is to follow God’s rules in helping unconverted men to stop procrastinating, get them baptized, and convert them to christianity, so that they can be with God in his love and glory and not suffering in Hell.…

My religious community has played a profound role on my development as an adult, the three guiding principals of Zoroastrianism: "Good Thoughts, Good Deeds, and Good Words" guide my actions daily. Being part of such a small community while heightening my sense of being has also made me more appreciative and understanding of other cultures & groups. For me understanding others has become a key component in understanding myself. My community has also enabled me to be a better communicator- as often times questions are asked regarding my ethnicity and religion where I can act as a spokesperson for the…

Fear specifically is defined as an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain, or a threat. Throughout the history of man, fear has remarkably had a prominent effect on the actions of many: used by dictators as a tactic to control, used in politics and religion to manipulate people’s positions. Fear materializes to the world in many forms; basic fears akin to those of spiders or heights, to more complex fears that are deep-rooted, like the fear of rejection or disappointment. Fear is an extensive part of life that has held a grip on people for many centuries in the past, and will for the many centuries to go. Identical to politics, entertainment platforms have manipulated fear to captivate…

As an ignorant young adult, I wasn’t very outgoing; I was always the shy student, the one who always got bullied and I wouldn’t really talk to anyone. When I turned fourteen, my parents informed me I was to attend confirmation classes. I wasn’t exactly enthused at the new that I would attend it for two years. To add to these, wonderful news; my older brother was going with me too. Goody.…

But make no mistake, “We are the battleground.” (Earley, Ch. 19) Many times I believe God has chosen me to glorify Him in a huge way and evil knows how I will become a threat. Reading books by C. S. Lewis, I know that doubting what God will use me for eventually is my biggest battle.…

“Believers stand at the overlap of two kingdoms. In this space, Christians experience the grief of this world in the face of evil and suffering while at the same time affirming the promises of Christian hope while grounded in the resurrection of Christ” (as cited in Burge & Lauber, 2014, p.81) This is a quote from Martin Luther that appears within the reading. This quote really resonated with me because it truly captures the battle that occurs within Christians, especially with regards to the concept of evil.…

A Little Caesar’s HOT-N-READY® Pizza costs $5. It’s not the most nutritious product in the fast food universe, but there are eight slices in a pie, and it tastes delicious. Even better, you can order it in unlimited quantities, and it’s the same price with pepperoni or without. From a business perspective, it’s the kind of price point you can only dream of; as a social entrepreneur, it was the inspiration for the project that has dominated the past two years of my life. I founded Peace of Pizza, a Non-Profit 501(c)(3) Organization, in February 2015.…

Christian’s are constantly being tempted beyond belief in today’s society. This temptation can stem from the smallest things to the largest things, but whatever the temptation is, we as Christians must constantly be alert and ready to brace ourselves against this temptation at all times. Sadly, most Christians aren 't fully aware of who or even what is tempting them. They are oblivious to the fact that creatures outside the realm of what we can see may be pushing us toward that very temptation that we are trying to avoid. This is called spiritual warfare.…

According to DC 93:37-39 we are able to withstand the temptations of Satan when we have light and truth. We gain light and truth by reading the scriptures, going to church, praying, following the commandments, and listening to the prophets. I have found that the more I do these actions the stronger my testimony becomes and the easier it is to choose the right and not the temptations of Satan. Notice that the temptations of Satan never cease even when we choose the right, however, when we choose the right we are filled with the light and truth of Christ and it is easier to choose another righteous decision. However, when we choose wickedness it becomes easier to choose another wicked decision and to turn away from the light and truth.…
