Why do I, Mishayla Moffitt, want to pursue a career in healthcare? It all started when I was in preschool and finally beginning to understand how the world works and what my dad did for a job. My dad is so passionate and caring towards his patients and he never goes home till the last sick patient is seen for the day. My dad is a family physician and from the age of five, I had my heart set on being a great doctor just like him.…
I have found myself to be in various leadership roles throughout my life. I was class president for three years in high school. I was captain of the Varsity Tennis team my senior year of high school. In college I founded the first Bollywood dance team at the University of Vermont and was President until I graduated in May 2015. With each role I have learned different skills but the most important being that a good leader must listen without judgment.…
When I combine my personality type with these leadership styles I can say that I believe in transformational leadership. Transformational leadership is one style of leadership where the leader is enlisted with identifying the needed change, guides the change through inspiration, and creates a course of action to make the…
This leadership style shares a sense of vision and communication. I do not want to hold all the power with the decision-making. I value my coworkers’ opinions and enjoy working as a team to approve upon things. I could not be a typical boss with a transactional leadership style. I do not want to bargain or bribe an employee for competency.…
There were many leadership styles I was exposed to during my time in the United States Army. The most memorable were the leaders I encountered during my first three years in the Army, more specifically with my time in the 173rd ABCT, 1st Battalion 503rd Infantry Regiment, Bravo company or what was known as Legion company. In my eyes the good leaders and the leader I aspired to be was the one everybody truly respected regardless of rank or position. It was the leader that we knew truly cared for our well-being and would put our well-being before their own.…
There is not one set definition of what a leader is, there are generalizations for a set definition but a leader means different things for every person on this Earth. Leadership can be exhibited in various ways. Learning to be a leader takes many years of experience and is always a learning process. The persons that I chose to be my ten leaders are individuals who I think have had enough experience to become the great leaders that they are today. Most of them have made such a huge impact in their careers to the point that they are considered legends at what they do.…
What is a Legacy Leader? FM 6-22 defines leadership as “the process of influencing people by providing purpose, direction, and motivation while operating to accomplish the mission and improving the organization.” When you become a leader of Soldiers you are giving the opportunity to develop and mold future leaders. A legacy leader to me is someone who has the ability to get you to follow regardless to how you feel about the situation. My legacy leader influential ability went far beyond his duty as a leader.…
Features of that style I also relate to strongly such as having a strong focus to get the job done, and attention to detail. After reading some of the other details however, I began to see why I didn’t score as highly as I thought. Overall, after reviewing all of the leadership styles listed in the assessment, I feel the participative leadership style captures my strengths as a leader more comprehensively than the other styles. Applying Leadership Styles The participative leadership can used in many situations to produce positive results.…
The laissez-faire leadership style characteristic is to be more uninvolved and allows the group to make decisions, versus the autocratic leader is one who enjoys control and takes little advice from the group. As a leader, I can also see characteristics of myself in both of those leadership styles, but the democratic style is the best fit. The democratic leadership style seems to be a mix of both of the other two styles because I do enjoy being the one who makes the final decision, but I do not like making decisions without a group consensus. Personal leadership style.…
Becoming a great leader thankfully is something you can grow into, although it will be hard work. We have studied how leaders need to be self aware and have emotional intelligence, building on strengths and realizing that there is no one way to lead is a great place to start. From our text Strengths Based Leadership I learned that attributes of a leader can be sorted into four categories and I will look at each of these one at a time. In this essay I will explore my top 10 desired attributes of a leader and make a plan of how to grow into them.…
My clinical experience as the team leader for this week’s clinical rotation was awesome. As the leader for the group I prepared myself to provide my peers with the necessary tools to be successful in their patient care. A few clinical practice and prevention utilized were such as: proper hand hygiene, and standard precautions like wearing gloves when in contact with patients. I was able to communicate clearly with my peers and with patients. Assisted Ms. Ingrid and peers when medication pass needed to be supervised, or a special procedure was being done by one of the students as well.…
According to the Seven Habits Profile, my strongest habit, with a score of 16, is “Be Proactive.” Being proactive means thinking about the task at hand and making a choice on how to handle the task based on principles and not on emotions. I do feel I am proactive in my job and my everyday life. In the Seven Habits Profile, I do feel that I answered these questions honestly. I have learned, in my current position, it is better to focus on what I can change in myself and try to worry less about what I cannot change, like those outside of my department.…
In terms of leadership style, I would consider myself more towards social leadership that focused more on teamwork, resolving disputes and providing support (Myers, 2013). Instead of directing the other group members on what to do, I distributed my authority with my group members by giving them the opportunity to voice their ideas as well as involving them in decisions making processes. I believed that group members felt more appreciated when their suggestions were acknowledged which then enhanced more creative and productive thoughts. This was due to the fact that brainstorming that involved the entire group encourages and stimulates ideas from different individuals (Nemeth, Personnaz, Personnaz & Goncalo,…
Upon studying leadership from many angles this semester my outlook has changed and I have been enlighten on the many styles of leadership. My newfound definition of leadership would have to be an individual that uses a variety of tactics and styles in order to lead a group or organization toward their common goal whatever it may be. In addition leadership is a process in which the team members play different roles and use various methods that best suit the group for optimal productivity and moral to influence others around them. The whole process is based around the objective of goal obtainment. My values seem to follow those of a small town American…
Introduction “Leaders are made, they are not born. They are made by hard effort, which is the price which all of us must pay to achieve any goal that is worthwhile.” — Vince Lombardi As I reflect on my leadership journey, I become more convinced with Vince that leaders are not born leaders, but are a result of a conscious effort to be one. While serving in various institutions in leadership positions, I have seen myself emerge to those positions through my hard work and skills rather than just having been assigned to it. Various factors like experience, training, mentorship, conscious practice and even failure have contributed in developing my leadership abilities.…
