When you are able to create an environment of trust and fairness, emotions of negativity, infighting and politics are greatly abridged, while productivity than increases. (Military Leadership, 2009) In 2013, I was selected to travel with the Commander of the Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force Afghanistan (CJSOTF-A) as the intelligence Analyst during key leader engagements (KLE). After a few KLEs I began to notice supervisors and my direct leader’s interactions become more negative. In an effort to alleviate negative tensions, feelings or perhaps misconceptions, I asked to have a face to face meeting with all my leaders. In doing so, my leaders were able to vent their frustrations, as was I. This ultimately allowed for all parties

During my time in the Army, I have had plenty of obstacles, one in particular would be when I was a RTO (radio tech operator) and we were attached to another battalion to go raid a village. We patrolled all night until we walked twelve miles to our location avoiding helicopters flying in the sky looking for us. Once we finally set up an OP (observation post) we had a team go out and recon the village and we established a plan on how we were going to attack the village. My squad only had about nine of us, so we were not initially part of the main element to go in and assault the village. However, as we started creeping up to the first obstacle, a fence, helicopters started patrolling for us again.…

From growing up in a military family, I have become very resilient and I adapt really well to change. With my surroundings changing all the time, I have to be able to quickly adapt to my new setting and find ways to fit in as quickly as possible. I have been to about twelve different schools so far, and I have lived in about eight different houses. When I live on a military base, change is constant, even if it is not my own family experiencing the orders to move that year. The houses around me fill and empty all the time with new people, and some of the military dominant schools I have been to have the same problem.…

When I was a Sailor first deployed to Afghanistan I was sent with medical supplies similar to those used during Vietnam. While on a foot patrol we came to a group of locals who had a boy with a open skull fracture, I secured the gaping hole with my basic gear ment for Marines. We escorted him to an Army combat out post hospital where an Army doctor questioned my gear and asked if I'd like an upgrade. He left and came back with a new med bag filled with new updated gear and gave it to me, saying this should help you keep more folks alive. I feel my experience with collaboration in that situation was awsome through inter-service provisions of medical care to those in need.…

Not many people in this country would sign up for a job where you can get killed any given day, where you can be shipped to any given place in the world at any time, or where they are forced to create a will at the age of 18 or 19. Many young men across this country sign up for a minimum of a 4 year contract to join the United States military. In my opinion they are the bravest people in the country and rightfully so. They have to leave their loved ones to protect us from all enemies foreign and domestic. I had the pleasure of interviewing three of my friends who are serving or who have served before, and we will take a look through their eyes.…

The North Star is recognized as the perennial navigation beacon and compass to follow, providing direction and guidance for those lost without it. Great leaders, similarly, provide focus and influence to guide others to achieve goals they would not reach on their own. A great leader, not only will inspire others to attain goals they would have not attempted otherwise, but also, will motivate others to grow by learning more about the world of opportunities around them and eventually motivate others to raise to a higher level of performance . As a water polo volunteer coach I learned to create an environment where players would experience successful practices and would be motivated to try harder to improve their game skills.…

I am an American. I say it with the utmost pride and respect. Some citizens don’t stand when they hear, “The National Anthem” play, they don’t remove their hats, and sometimes they even talk over our song. They don’t feel great pride when they see The United States of America’s flag waving high in the air. Some Americans tend to think of being free, having personal rights, being allowed to speak up and many other rights as normal, but in other countries living in America and having the opportunities we have everyday is only a dream to them.…

While sitting in a C-17 aircraft with an M4 in my hand and a full ruck of battle gear under my foot, I realize I am going into war for real. Even with the extremely loud airplane engine screaming in my ears, I can’t stop thinking how only three weeks ago my life had suddenly taken a drastic turn. It feels like a dream, yet it is so real. Thinking back, I could see a fresh new soldier just comes out of training standing in front of an in-processing desk with a lot of expectations about his new unit.…

My first leadership experience came from being a voluntary work as a life- and management skills trainer, where I had to deal with different background, minds and studies trainees, to be the leader of my own session, the thing that let me build my communication, discussion and presentation skills. During this period I have met so many people with various way of thinking, where I succeed dealing with them each time. After that I started working as assistant supervisor in a psychological support centre for the international medical corps, where I had the chance to deal with very professional and creative people, the hardest thing was being accepted as the youngest member of the team and to be known as a leader , but being in this atmosphere…
