Personal Narrative: My Personal Experience With FFA

Decent Essays
My personal experience with FFA is all post high school. During college I discovered the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences when I took AGTM 100 as a career exploration course and I moved into CALS forever after that. In my classes most of my peers are FFA alumni and each member that I have met has shared proudly their memories of FFA. I could not help but noticing with each experience that was shared with me all of the amazing opportunities the program gave them. I couldn’t believe all of the things that they had gotten to learn in high school, to be honest I am a little jealous. However, most of all I am impressed. Each member that I’ve met I have noticed that they are all well developed and professional people. They have plans for

When I first joined FFA, I had no idea of the impact it would have on me. Funnily enough, I originally thought of it just as a stepping stool into become a veterinarian- obviously plans have changed. And although my original goal and reason for joining has changed, I’m grateful that I did join, because FFA has impacted me in more ways than one. It goes beyond other experiences because as far as an educational experience goes, it has taught me a great deal than I ever expected. FFA has gone beyond just teaching me about cows, plants, and farming, it’s taught me business, life and leadership skills.…

Even when I’m wrong I’m usually right. At least that is how I like to think of it but the truth is I am headstrong. I don’t give up and I’ll keep persisting to get what I want. Though it hasn’t always been helpful, but, yet being so stubborn has lead me to work hard to to achieve my goals. To say I’m as stubborn as a mule would be an understatement.…

As a child growing up in Rhode Island, the smallest state in the Union, the idea of a vast planet brimming with civilization and culture was more like something out of a fairy tale than it was reality. So, when my father announced that we would be leaving the country to go to Scotland, the home of his and my ancestors, my world began to expand at a rapid pace. This trip could not have been timed more perfectly. The summer of 2007 marked the end of fourth grade, my first year at Saint Mary Academy Bay View.…

Attending the SLA program was the best decision I could have made before officially starting school. Before I met the amazing people I know now in GenJacks; I already knew I was coming to SFA with a group of friends. So, I felt I didn't need to make friends during the leadership academy because I knew my "real friends" were coming in a week. Shockingly, I was wrong because the people I met in GenJacks helped me in the personal growth I needed before starting college. My GenJack friends have also been a support system for me during my very adventurous first week of college.…

I believe that COI will broaden my education by incorporating the three areas of the model. I have always believed that hard work and diligence was most of I needed to thrive in a class. Before attending bridge bound and learning about the COI, I planned to manage my education with similar methodology as I previously had, with hard work, time management, and self-reliance. What Sets Frontier Apart from the Rest In traditional online classes, fellow…

My longing to teach first stemmed from my experience at Charter Oak International Academy. At this school, I was not only taught educational lessons but life lessons. Classes filled with students who identified as African, Mexican, Brazilian, American, Chinese, or other combinations were eager to learn and share their knowledge. Not only where students they there to learn, they were there to educate. My peers at the time cultured and showed me acceptance, pride, and confidence all things that I desired at the time.…

“Proud traditions, sparking ambitions.” That was the saying for FFA this past year. While that 4-word phrase may seem just like a catchy phrase or a good theme to have, when we take a step back and examine those 4 words, we realize that it has been vivid throughout our history, in FFA, 4-H, agriculture, and throughout the world. People throughout our history, even though they may not realize it, have been running with this idea. This phrase has been summing up the actions of some of our greatest leaders and helping people change the world every day.…

In addition to the specific information of the AIF, my engagement in my volunteer work challenged me to expand my worldview and allowed me to meet new people from various different backgrounds. It was a great learning experience collaborating with different people. I had to learn how to play different roles during my volunteer work which has enriched/enhanced my knowledge in a variety of different fields. For example, through the work, I feel proud that I became a member of the donation and community service system. After having experience of working behind the “scene” in my community, I learned that a lot of effort and diligence is required to maintain the community.…

My experience with Teach Forward Houston is a bit different from most of my fellow TFH students. When my high school advisor told me about the program, I applied just to see if I could get it, that was the only reason I applied for the program I did not know all the benefits of being part of group at the time. I thought TFH was just going to offer me money and a job when I get graduate. I did not take it much serious, even at the day of my interview, I did not even know I had interview and a day after my interview day when all my teachers and friends asked me about how my interview went I did not know what they were talking about because I did not check my email and did not show up for my own interview. That’s when I start taking it seriously,…

My journey with 'Team Bolt' to reach the finals of the competition 'F1 in schools' has been a significant event which truly led me to emerge as an adult. F1 in Schools' is a global multi-disciplinary challenge in which teams of students deploy CAD/CAM software to collaborate, design, analyze, manufacture, test, and then race miniature compressed air powered balsa wood F1 cars. My school chose me as one of the few for the team. This competition was different from any other we had participated in, but given our track record of success in other competitions, we were excited.…

I think the Bafa Bafa activity was a great experience for me in that it helped me to think more abstractly on culture. I learned that each culture is different and has their own set of norms. For instance, the alpha culture was more loving and approachable while the beta culture felt more uncomfortable with all the “touching”. I think this is a good experience for us educators in that it helps us visually see some differences amongst each person. I also learned that language can have a significant effect on each person.…
