The part that I didn't realize was the fact that I didn't take into account if they were as excited to work with me. Since I have started I have had clients who verbalized that the would like to help me with my practicum and meet with me regularly. The reality hit when some of them had reason why they could not meet. I had one client who would constantly either tell me no he wasn't in the mood or would be lying in bed and would tell me that he was sleeping. I have had a client who identified that she would like to lose weight, but then would deny that she had any issues. Most recently I encountered one of my clients who has been with me from the beginning and has been working toward quitting smoking determine that he does not want to quit smoking. He had also previously identified that he wanted to budget his money to save it for when he moves out. He determined that he spends most of his money on cigarettes and snacks and if he continues to smoke he will have little money to budget with. He started off strong in the contemplation stage of change. He created an action plan, however I questioned (based on staff reporting) if he implemented the action steps.
