Decent Essays
My path to Augustana University all started from a fellow friend introducing the University while he was already here. My friend, Levi Jansen, was one of my closest friends in high school and is still a very close friend to this day. Levi and I hung out every once in awhile, but every time we were together he would always bring up college. From these little talks, I was introduced to one of the best decisions of my life. My College decision was a long and stressful, especially the game day visit to the campus visits. My past laid out upon a table. My GPA, my resume, my test scores. An unfamiliar man whom I met for the first time was frowning, turning around in his creaky red chair, while hurriedly trying to contextualize my life with just a few pieces of paper. For 15 minutes, he sat there, unhappy, tapping his foot, analyzing what I’ve “done” with my life. He took a sip of water and suggested that I go to community college.…

Hamilton took me by surprise. I knew it was a small liberal arts college, but I had no grasp on how unique and genuine the community was. So many people said hi to my tour guide, Emily, as she showed me around -- including the line cook in the dining hall! I also heard how a student emailed 10 alumni to help her with something, and all of them replied to her. This kind of close-knit, loving family is what I want in a college experience.…

My interest in the honors college derives from the environment that I have grown up in since my sixth grade year. Like many of those applying to the honors college, I was separated from many of my peers into a group of children who showed an advancement in intellectual ability at an early age. This allowed us to work together with suitable partners to help each other learn and develop new ways of thinking. The honors college will serve much of the same purpose and allow me to maximize my learning experience while at Purdue. I do, however, believe that this gives individuals like myself an unfair advantage over my peers.…

At the time it seemed like a good start, however I was more interested in attending a liberal arts college, which later offered spring admission. During February, I heard back from most of the school I applied to.
