Personal Narrative: My Overall Childhood Environment

Improved Essays
My overall childhood environment had a major impact of who I am today and to me it is the most ideal environment to grow up in. I grew up in what was a very diverse community, not only diverse ethnic wise, but the overall characteristics of everybody was what I enjoyed. Growing up i lived in many different places. We didn't move out of state or country, but just various parts of the Dallas county. Though, my favorite and the one I consider my home environment is Garland.

I grew up in the suburban side of Garland (North garland). In this area people tend to interact with one another. This doesn't mean everyone got along though. Obviously people tended to interact with their preference of people. When it came to me I prefered to stay

I was ten years ago and I can still vividly remember sitting on an old, wooden rocking chair while the words of The Very Hungry Caterpillar trembled off my lips to a room full of second graders. I can recall the eagerness and excitement that filled their little faces as I flipped from page to page. There was an abundance of curiosity and desire to learn in that classroom that made me happy that I decided on skipping recess to read to the younger students. There was a fire that lit in my ten-year-old body that day. That was the day where I finally had an answer to all the “What do you want to be when you grow up?”…

Growing up in a family that did not communicate that much, I was not very close with my mother of father. My mom and I did tend to talk more but not about personal things in our life. Me and my dad however always fought. I have a few good memories with him (he loved teaching me how to make home made biscuits.) which I always enjoyed on those rare occasions he was in a good mood. But, 90% of the time we were fighting.…

As a child, I grew up in four different towns and states. Since I was born in Harvey me and my mother lived in that neighborhood for a little while. Harvey was a dangerous town and there was too much violence near my house. When I turned 2 I moved to Chicago Heights, which is an hour away from Harvey and it was a very safe environment. In Chicago Heights, there wasn't a specific place for kids to hang out, but I was two years old until I was gonna be hanging out anyway.…

The Truth of Growing Up As a child all I wanted to do is just grow up and be an adult. As I grew older and taken on more responsibilities, I realized that growing up is not all that exciting and is actually difficult. In the final year of high school when college is the big stress, all the teachers want is to prepare us for the long papers, difficult tests and more stress. In the back of mind I’m thinking, wow this is going to be stressful, I don’t want to go to college anymore. Well my wish came true…

I was 13 years old, just starting off high school, when I realized what this dark cloud that’s been floating over me for the past couple of months really is. It wouldn’t be until more than a year later until I seek out professional help. It started off innocently enough as just a feeling of constant emptiness at the pit of my stomach. It slowly turned into randoms bouts of extreme rage, where I’d take out my anger physically, not just on the walls and mirrors of my childhood home and not just on my family, but on myself. I couldn’t understand why I felt this way, why I wasn’t “normal”.…

My father has been in the military for 30 years. His career has taken him and my family, to every corner of the world. The Air Force is a demanding career path to choose; often the spouse is left with the full weight of the chores to be done on the home front. During the course of my upbringing these duties were, in part, delegated to my sisters and I. While we never experienced “a life of almost tropical idleness’ (CITATION) like the children of Jane Smiley, we became effective and efficient members of our house hold. We learned to respect our house and our family.…

I believe that physical, social, and cultural environments are closely connected in my environments, especially in my small hometown. Everyone has a similar value system in Mitchell, Nebraska, which usually consists of working hard, doing the job right, putting others before yourself, and volunteering for community events. I have adopted these beliefs, so I know that environments can impact a person and their choices about how to behave. This may also be the reason that I chose to go into the health field, which would indicate that environments also affect ones occupations. Institutional environment is another environment that is important to me.…

A community environment serves an important function in shaping our personal development and belief system. The community an individual grows up in says a lot about that individual as a person. With strengths, comes weaknesses and every community differs in many ways. The community I grew up in may differ from the community others lived in, and that’s what makes us all unique and different from one another. No matter if you live on Grand View Drive or you live on the south side of Chicago each community has its different problems, and just because someone may live in a different neighborhood than you doesn’t mean you are complete polar opposites it just means you experience obstacles differently in your daily routine and that is completely…
