Personal Narrative: My New Job In The Department Of Correction

Decent Essays
The day I started my new job in the Department of Correction, I remember having an exciting feeling, but also extremely nervous. When I walked into the facility it was nothing like it was betrayed to be on T.V. I was expecting to see inmates behind bars, and hearing the sound of the gates close behind you. Instead it was more like 50 men was walking around and able to touch you if they wanted to, there was no bars just a room of like 25 cells with an open area, which is referred to as the common area. The feeling of nervousness increased while the feeling of excitement went away. At that moment I was not sure if this was the right route I wanted to take. The first day was very long for me, my day was filled with a bunch of wild men yelling

Of all the sights I saw and sounds I heard, the one feature of my tour that gave me the creeps occurred in the "administrative segregation" wing of the massive prison complex. In the Human Services field I am very passionate about working with people in the deaf culture. I am passionate about working with this population because I know American Sign Language and I feel a connection to the community. Learning ASL took a long time and allowed me to be engaged in many events in the deaf community. I believe people in this population are not given nearly as much attention or opportunities as they should be. The lack of equal access to education, jobs, and basic interactions that hearing people take for granted is not fair and puts this population at a disadvantage therefore making it important for people to want to work with this group of people.…

ding. If I were in this situation as the parole officer I would do my best to try and help to mother, in whichever way possible. I know this would go against my beliefs and rules that I must follow as a parole officer but I still think I would try my hardest to help this mother get back on her feet and be able to provide for her children. I think many people would jump the gun and file a violation report on this specific issue, as she is violating her probation, but I don’t feel that would be the best way to approach this situation.…

Everyone worked together and treated each other like a family so that helped me to be comfortable working with them.
