Personal Narrative: My New England Vacation

My New England Vacation - Kennebunkport, ME
Our next stop was Kennebunkport, Maine, a beautiful little town mostly known for shipbuilding and fishing. The people are very friendly and laid back. We stayed one night at the White Barn Inn, a very unique inn.
There were some interesting fixtures at the inn such as the hand-painted furniture, beautiful garden and my favorite; a sleigh bed for a good night's sleep. I had a nice steak dinner at the restaurant. The restaurant was quite unique, featuring high-beam ceilings with big windows. I didn't get a chance to take advantage of their spa.

On our first day, we rented some bikes and took advantage of some of the various cycling trails on the island with a great ocean view.
We ate at the Hooked Restaurant on the first day; I ordered Broiled Flounder Stuffed with Lobster Crab & Prawns and Cheesecake Crumble for dessert.
On the second day, we chose Nancy's Restaurant and I wasn't disappointed. Their food is unbelievable; I ordered one of their specialty dishes - Lobster Mac & Cheese. I must have gained 10 lbs by the time we left but well worth it.

My New England Vacation – Newport, RI
The next stop of my New England vacation was the beautiful and charming town of Newport, Rhode Island. While some of the town has changed over the years, there's still plenty to see and explore from the golden age of society.
One house that I enjoyed touring was the Chanler at Cliff Walk. It was built in 1873 and sits along the rugged coastline. The guest rooms are decorated in either French or Greek furnishings and have heated bathroom floors, wet bars, with vintage prints and original oil paintings. From above you get a great oceanside view of spectacular boats along with numerous mansions.

Our rooms featured cast-iron beds and claw-foot tubs. If you ever visit the area, I highly recommend staying here; make sure you book early to ensure a room.

My New England Vacation – Plymouth, MA
On the last three days back at my brother’s house, I took it easy relaxing in the lawn chair with a glass of ice tea. Two days prior before my departure back home, my brother and his wife took me to the historical town of Plymouth, MA; it was only a 25-mile drive from his house.
The town features Plymouth Rock where the Pilgrims first landed; it is actually a rock. Plymouth is a charming New England town with lots of sightseeing opportunities too numerous to mention.
We toured the Mayflower II that is anchored in Plymouth Harbor. The tour features people dressed in Pilgrim clothing and acting out the voyage and landing of the Mayflower. When you actually get to tour the ship, you realize just how small the Mayflower was and how it could hold over 100 people.
There was one embarrassing moment when one of the actors was telling us how sick she was from the harsh winter months. I told her that I hope that her cold will get better soon before realizing that it was part of her

In Nathaniel Philbrick’s narrative Mayflower, he tells the story of the struggle and hardships of a group of people who cross the ocean to find personal and religious freedom in a new land. These people are the Pilgrims, but they are much different from the stereotypical pilgrims that we think of today. Philbrick tells the story of the Pilgrims struggle to survive in their first few months, their first meetings with and the rise and eventual fall of the alliance between the Native Americans and the Pilgrims. I found the book to be very interesting when I read it, and though it was boring or slow at times, it provided a great deal of intriguing information that I never knew before about the story of the Pilgrims and their long, treacherous…

When the first colonies on the eastern side of what is now the United States were first established, they were failures. The colonists could not produce what they needed for survival and the colonists often had conflict with the Native Americans, forcing some colonies to fail. After colonies began to almost be successful, for example Jamestown and Plymouth, more Europeans wanted to come to the new world for a variety of reasons, like religious freedom. The Quakers were a part of this group, settling in Pennsylvania under William Penn.…

John Demos is an American Author and a professor for Yale University. Within John Demos’ article, “Notes on Life in Plymouth Colony,” Demos displays the movement and expansion of early colonies especially Plymouth. The topic of the article focuses on movement of colonies in comparison between the traditional colonies and Plymouth, in which Plymouth does not fit within that category (Demos, 1965, p.264). Demos argues that the concept of a traditional colony is static, does not fit in terms of Plymouth because within Plymouth there were numerous accounts of movement as well as growth.…

William Bradford and Edward Winslow’s Mourts Relation is a first account experience of what the passengers of the Mayflower, a British vessel which landed in present-day Plymouth , Massachusetts in 1620, experienced on the grounds of what they assumed was going to be an abandoned piece of land . It documents the exploration of many different spots that they stumbled upon such as camps, burying grounds and villages. The first encounter as said in Mourts Relation sets the platform for what most English travelers experienced at the time of discovering a new piece of land. The feeling of exhaustion, hunger and curiosity had orbited the minds of these men the second they stepped foot on that soil, as I am sure the Native Americans who spotted them were feeling no less curious. Given the intensity by…

My initial thought of going to Japan is “Are we going to see some awesome neon city in Akihabara or are we going to some rural area with some magnificent landscape that I have seen in the magazines?”. Surprisingly my dad told me we are going to stay in Japan for a month with my grandma and grandpa in Sapporo where many fresh meat is being made locally. Day before the journey begins, I realized this will be my first time riding a plane as well. This frightened me because I am afraid of heights. I fixed this by reading a book on how to not be afraid of heights while riding the airplane (This is funny because my dad thought I was ridiculous).…
