If Memphis were a person what would I call her and why. Her niece pampering of the dead is majestic, calming, and peaceful and it shows the compassion she has for her fellowman. The elaborate pink castle of her nephews, show his love for history and historical events. While another niece, Mallory struggles to make herself a place in the family. Her love of music is encompassed around about her by the rays of the Sun. And let us not forget the nephew that has made his name known nationally. Within the confines’ of her magnificence house, turmoil, deceit, prejudice, beauty, strife and confusion exists, but it is a place we call home.

Elmwood Cemetery is the oldest active cemetery in Memphis, formed by 50 prominent Memphis citizens in 1852. Elmwood trees had to be brought into the city from New York because it had no Elmwood trees, so she could live up to her name. I was impressed by the immaculate condition of the groundkeepers considering the age of the cemetery. However I am confused by the fund raising process; of host a Spirit to Spirit night on Halloween. I feel the cemetery should be a sacred place and kids today have no respect for the living less long the …show more content…
The Mallory-Neely and Magevaney House is part of the Pink Palace Family of Museum, but the Mallory-Neely house appears to be struggling to come back. Being a part of “Auntie M”, you would think if she is going to receive money for showing her in her collection of museum; she would at least invest a little more time and money into bring her up to par. The tour guide was informative but it appears as if a lot of assumption of time and place is displayed inside of the house. I was not impressed, mainly because of the upkeep and repairs going on. I felt as if “Auntie M” was trying to make a little more history exist than what was actually available.
Her love of music is encompassed around about her by the rays of the Sun. The Sun Studio is independent child that’s under the umbrella of “Auntie M”. She knows how to make her way in this big house. She plugs into the love of music that surrounds the city and bring back an element that a lot of big name people got their start. It wasn’t until 10 years after Elvis death that value was recaptured by pig tailing off the Elvis Presley Memphis tour. Sun Studio is one of many on the music track of rhythm and blues in the south. I love music; rock n roll; Elvis and especially the blues: Shine

In the short stories Coming of Age in Mississippi and “Everyday Use”, Anne Moody known as Essie Mae, and Mrs. Johnson otherwise known as Momma, share similar characteristics in the way they are alienated by their actions in the two short stories. Essie Mae and Momma are both strong, independent black women who live in the time period of segregation and intense animosity between the black and white races. Furthermore, they are both experiencing conflicts of interest among their family members closest to them and their selves throughout the entirety of the two stories. Nevertheless, Essie Mae from the Coming of Age in Mississippi and Momma from “Everyday Use” possess the modern condition because of the way Essie Mae and Momma are alienated from particular members of their families and their behavioral actions to their surroundings.…

For two weeks, I stayed in Charleston, South Carolina. I didn’t know much about the place, except that I referred to it as an army town because that’s where my sister and her husband, who was in the military, stayed. I was reluctant to go, but Charleston had a lot to offer me; a new change of pace and some new scenery was much more satisfying than spending the two weeks stuck in Iowa doing the same old routine. The weather was mystical in Charleston.…

When professor mentioned that we would watch and discuss about a Broadway Musical show named ‘Memphis’, the first that came to my mind was, the actual city Memphis in the southern state of Tennessee. I was still confused as to how a city and its activities could be incorporated into a Musical show, which is assumed to be entertaining with melodramatic components, dance and music. I had an assumption that it would be academic, political, boring since it is to be watched in a classroom setting and that a professor would not choose something entertaining or something of the liking of the younger generation. I deduced that this play might touch the topic of race since race defined how a person is treated in most southern states. I assumed that…
