Personal Narrative: My Name Of Analeise

Decent Essays
Analeise. That’s my first name, my original name, the name I never went by until 8th grade. I never used Analeise. I felt liked it didn’t suit me as a child. It was long and unfamiliar. I didn’t even know how to spell it, at first. I avoided using it in school and with friends. I rarely used it before 8th grade. I only started to use it after I transferred out of my old middle school to a new middle school. I didn’t like correcting teachers, it was embarrassing. It was especially embarrassing when others would throw in their comments too. I hated telling them that it was my nickname. I grew tired of correcting people, so I finally decided to embrace my first name. At first, I really didn’t want to be called Analeise. It was weird, it didn’t feel normal. Eventually, I got used to it and decided that it did suit me. …show more content…
What did everyone call me? Everyone called me by my nickname, Gabbie, and I used it on a daily basis. I use it with close friends, my family, and my art. Believe it or not, I use my nickname more than my real name! It’s a little weird how I got Gabbie from Analeise, right? Well, it’s my middle name shorten down, Gabrielle. My parents nicknamed me Gabbie since I loved to talk as a child. I was a real chatterbox back then, and I’m still very social! Using my nickname just feels more natural to me, but using my real name doesn’t bother me as much as it used to

“Ginger” and “little red” and “copper head” and the ever so famous “carrot top” were just a few of many nicknames that once taunted my childhood. It seemed to be that I did not have a name, but rather I was just “the redhead.” Always sticking out like a sore thumb, I was surrounded by a family of dark brown hair and undoubtedly seemed to be the only child in the class with the uncommon genes of fiery red hair, a galaxy of freckles that covered my body, and the fairest of skin that would burn at the slightest of interaction with the sun. As a result of the little resemblance I share with my family, people often mistaken me for someone else’s child or demanded an explanation.…

When I think about the boy who I was growing up, the young adult I am today, and the man I plan to be in the forthcoming years, one aspect of my life stands out to me far more radiantly than anything else: my culture, my skin, my identity as a Bangladeshi-American. There aren't many clubs or organization for Bangladeshi Americans such as myself. Make no mistake, there are certainly events for Bangladeshis living in the United states, many that I have attended due to various entreaties from my parents. These are event where the only language spoken is one that I barely speak (Bengali), the only music conversed about is that which I don't listen to or understand, and the only events discussed happen in another country that I have spent only a…
