Personal Narrative: My Name Brittany

What belongs to you, but others use it more than you? Your name. The word your parents may have spent weeks, even months trying to decide on. The word they signed on a form at the hospital making you officially you. The word you will be identified with for the rest of your life; for me this name is Brittany Rose Walz.
The first name Brittany come from the northwest region of France, Bretagne. Bretagne is a French province named for the Briton settlers fleeing after the invasion of the Algon-Saxon on England. The name Brittany was brought to the United States in the 1970’s and is now ranked 456th in the USA. The name Brittany literally means from Bretagne. According to numerology, used in ancient times by the Pythagoras, Brittany’s are humanitarians. They are “compassionate, caring, charitable, and civilized.” I was not named after anyone, but my parents allowed my aunt to name me. She is not able to bear children and always wanted a little girl named Brittany Rose. My mother could tell how heartbroken my aunt and uncle were when they found out they would never be able to have children of their own, so my mother agreed to name me Brittany Rose for my aunt. I like my name. It is unique to me, and I like that a lot. I think the worst thing about my name is that it has different spellings so people get it wrong a lot or on keychains, sometimes I can’t find the right way to spell it, other than that I appreciate the name. The name Rose originally came from the Normans in Germany. Rose comes from the Norman word elements “hrod,” meaning fame, and “heid,” meaning kind, sort, type. The name Rose originated after the flower because of its fragrance. The middle name Rose was convenient because it is the name of my father’s mother.
