I did like this assignment as it made me think about my mother’s unfortunate daily struggle with her addictions does have some positive attributes in me. I do not think that I would be where I am today if it was not for her substance abuse issues. Even though I wish that it could have been different for her, I have learned from her mistakes. I actively try to make positive choices within my life, so I do not have to deal with what my mother had and has to face. I have placed so much meaning in that butterfly figurine, and it has shaped my life entirely. It was somewhat ironic because a few weeks ago, I asked my mom if she remembered giving it to me. She did not remember what it was, but I still view her giving it to me as an important milestone
