Personal Narrative: My Most Dangerous Game

The Arrival I had originally planned to travel to Rio on September 5th through September 12th. A perspicacious and experienced hunter named Rainsford accompanied me. It was nighttime when I first spotted land of any sort. It was vaguely visible and was opaque, so misty that even Rainsford couldn’t see it. Utterly tired, I began drifting off, dreaming of the adventures we were soon to face.
A few minutes in, I was awakened by a thundering sound. I rushed to the deck where Rainsford was, and we met eyes. It sounded like 3 shots had been fired from a gun somewhere near us. In that instant, Rainsford fell overboard into the warm Caribbean waters. I dived in with him, for I knew that we had to stick together. I finally arrived at a rocky shore

He seems to have a plan laid out, but nevertheless, he begins to sprint in circles as soon as he’s released. It took some time to realize that he was trying to confuse the general by overlapping his tracks. The general invalidated my awe for Rainsford’s intelligence when he located Rainsford on top of the tree. Nevertheless, he walked away, likely out for another day of hunt. The next day, Rainsford started on a Malay mancatcher. As expected, the general arrived not long after the trap was finished. He stepped on the trap, but as soon as he did so, he jumped back, sensing danger. The log hit the general’s shoulder, injuring it. General Zaroff‘s wounds may have been more severe if it weren’t for his agility. He called out to let Rainsford know of his presence and left to get aid. As soon as he went out of range, Rainsford jumped out of the log and started his journey again with haste. He began to build another trap by Death Swamp- a place where there is quicksand. He first digs a pit, then puts spear-like like items inside it, and covers it with lacerated grass. As soon as he is done, he hides behind a tree stump. His predator, the General, came to hunt moments later. An animal that seemed to be a hound accompanied him. He walked toward the trap with scruples, watching every step he took. That instant, his dog fell into the trap, taking its life. The general again lets Rainsford know of his presence, and left with a warning for …show more content…
He goes to his bedroom where Rainsford goes and confronts him, which obviously startled the general. The general acknowledged that Rainsford had won and took him to the hounds to keep his word. As he left, I came out of the bathroom after this commotion and let Rainsford know of my presence this whole time. Rather than being angry that I had not helped him, he seemed pleased to have a companion to talk to. Everything that used to seem like a necessity seemed like an amenity inside the house. We drifted off to sleep with aplomb in a remarkably placid environment. The next morning, I had breakfast with Rainsford as he told me everything in detail. I retrieved a ship and headed home in the hours that followed. There was not a moment in this adventure that I felt ennui. Here I am, alive, telling you this story. These are the facts and information that I have gathered: Ship-Trap Island is an island that is there to trap ships. Countless humans have died on that island. The general that I will never condone is now dead. The owner of this island is now the one and only Rainsford. I have even brought items from the island to show as tangible proof of this news article. The island is safe, and not taint for now, unless... Beware of Ship- Trap

In the pitch black of the night, Rainsford fell off his yacht into the dark ocean, and “Desperately he struck out with strong strokes after the receding lights of the yacht, but he stopped before he had swum fifty feet. A certain cool-headedness had come to him” (21). He acknowledges that to be able to think clearly he would have to calm himself down. Putting his circumstance into perspective he is able to relax himself. The water was just as welcoming as it had been on the night when Rainsford had fallen off the yacht; not at all. However, he supposed wildly flailing in the deep murky blue of the ocean was better than being torn apart by the pack of hounds. Rainsford held his breath underwater, the salt stinging his eyes. “Clever one, that Rainsford fellow.” General Zaroff remarked, peering at the blustering waters.…

He didn’t want to take part in the hunt, but he knew he had to do whatever it took to defeat Zaroff because he didn’t want to die such a shameful death, but more importantly, beat Zaroff at his own game. Trying to maintain his civility, Rainsford had to play Zaroff’s game in order to survive. This conflict between man versus man was very tense. Both men wanted to deem themselves as the ultimate hunter and did whatever they could to win the hunt. Coming from two men sitting at the dinner table eating, now, to two men in the jungle trying to kill each other is very dramatic and illustrates the overwhelming conflict between man versus man in “The Most Dangerous Game.”…

Before the storm, the shore was a graceful arc of sand, glittering under the summer sun, a place for a serene ocean to lap. A fleeting flurry of sand waves rolled in with a soothing swish. Every few steps lay a shell, a treasure of the aquatic world just out of reach. The small, wet pebbles that lined the beach sparkled in the bright light of the day. I reached down to pick one up, running my finger over its smooth surface.…
