I was playing lacrosse on a warm spring day in Glen Ellyn. I could feel my adrenaline spike, accompanied by my heart beating out of my chest. We finally had the ball on our side. The first place team that happened to be our school’s arch nemesis, had selfishly kept the ball to themselves so far. The Arrival I had originally planned to travel to Rio on September 5th through September 12th. A perspicacious and experienced hunter named Rainsford accompanied me. It was nighttime when I first spotted land of any sort. It was vaguely visible and was opaque, so misty that even Rainsford couldn’t see it. Utterly tired, I began drifting off, dreaming of the adventures we were soon to face.…

I put in the work, I dressed the part—there’s only one piece missing. “Ladies and gentlemen, this is our Hillsborough High School varsity lacrosse team,” announced the coach. Cheers and applause poured out from the crowd, but it left me choking back tears, distraught. All those Sunday afternoons on the field, those carved-out study breaks, it all felt squandered. I pondered how this could have happened.…

Rainsford was dragging General Zaroff’s corpse across the bedroom floor with a wide grin on his face. He’d done it, he had won the game that other’s had attempted and lost. WHen he reached the window, he let the dead body drop to the floor as he opened the window and proceeded to throw him out, listening for the thud of the body hitting the hard ground. He smirked at the thought of the dogs devouring the dead body. No one ever wins, huh?…

Although you may fail once, you always have to come back harder and better. It’s always about the comeback and how you take the failure. After triumphing in our sectional championship game against Cicero-North Syracuse (CNS) by a score of three-to-one, we found ourselves seventh seed coming up against New York State’s number one seeded team, Bethlehem. The noise heard across the stadium from all the fans added on to the rough conditions of the night, but we all remained as calm and concentrated as possible. Prior to kick-off, we listened to the national anthem,…
