Personal Narrative: My Mission Trip To Guatemala

Decent Essays
I have experienced much grace through the trouble and poverty I have witnessed through my mission trips to Guatemala. I went to Guatemala June 9-16, 2014, and August 4-11, 2015 (and I plan on going back August 2016). Seeing the conditions these people live in daily, has helped me take to heart the kind of help they are in need of. Many of these people have no home, no family or no money to provide for their family, yet they are still thankful. Most of the time little boys and girls won’t have any shoes on their feet or their clothes will be far too small. It makes me so sad to think that we live in a world of luxuries and they live in a world of misfortune. During both of these trips, through the building of houses and working in medical clinics, I was able to share my faith and love to …show more content…
I have also found that one of the best things that I can do for my spiritual health is help others. By helping others, I have learned that we can show them abundant grace during the times when they are experiencing much trouble. I go on these mission trips to serve others, but I find that these people will do anything they can to serve me. It is hard for me to comprehend the grace that we can show each other without ever having met. I have also discovered that even when some people are experiencing trouble in their lives, they can still show you so much grace. One thing that I have learned is that God has given us grace so that we may show others grace. We never deserved his loving grace, yet he went through torture and troubles to give it to us. In the same way, we don’t deserve others grace, yet we go through trouble to show others it. God has taught us to love those even when they don’t love us, and that is why Grace makes sense. I appreciate the grace I have been given from these people who are experiencing so much trouble and I am so grateful to have been able to show them the grace God has shown

In today’s society, people are swept up in the wrath of being too prideful, or become greedy. These deadly sins deaden our religious life, causing us to distance ourselves from God’s path. Everyone must dig deep into their spiritual lives, and lend a helping hand to those who need it the most. Whether it’s simply having a conversation with a homeless person, donating money, or volunteering at a daycare for the destitute children, these charitable acts can make a huge difference in someone’s life. My service learning experience was an eye opener for me, and it made me realize how privileged and blessed I truly am.…

When I went on a mission trip in Florida three years ago we helped at a local soup kitchen. It was amazing to see just how many people showed up. Most of these people didn’t even come alone, they had children, brothers, sisters, even good friends who were just stuck and needed help. I sat and talked with some of the people, they told…

I was only 14 when I went on my mission trip, but experiencing that such a young age has shaped me for who I am. I was involved in three mission trips, which all occurred in the States, but in all three-mission trips I helped people who I believe needed it most. I was proud of what I did and I think it was something that not a lot of people did at my age. One of my biggest motivators were the people I was helping. After going on my first trip, I had bonded with others and had made me realize what the real world is like outside a small town in Iowa.…

In my seventeen years of living, I have gone through my fair share of tragedies. Yes, at seventeen years old. I have seen a marriage fall apart and a family member die right before my eyes. This also reminds me of the movie Human Experience where they get to live and interact with homeless people. There was a scene where a man does not lose hope because he knows that God is there with them, and will be taken care of. As I was serving their food, I can also see the same hope within their eyes. A hope for a new beginning. A hope for a better…

Andrew Just last year, Dylan and I traveled to Haiti on a missions trip. As you may know, it's one of the poorest countries in the world. When we were beginning our descent on the airplane, I thought about how little roads and how poor the housing was. We drove through chaotic roads and rubble filled alleys, until we reached the orphanage. New Life Children’s Home is a safe haven for kids who lived in the mountains a couple miles north.…

Each experience has helped me grow character and be more compassionate. My faith is a big part of who I am and I use it spread positivity and kindness. One event that really stood out was our church mission trip to Mexico.…

That is why I have decided that I needed to do something to help them out, as well as to provide them with a couple days of relief; a day where they don't have to worry about providing for their families, a day where they can relax and have a smile on their face and let someone else do all the worrying for them, a day they can actually sit down and enjoy time together with one another. Now that I am older, I understand that there will always be struggles in life, struggles that some people don't want to face; I also understand how difficult life can be, especially if you have a family with and the provider has a low paying job or not having any source of income to provide your family with. Giving to those not as fortunate, will make me feel like I am starting something that can make a change in this world, something that will motivate others to do the same and help those who are in need and make this world a better place. This mission trip will consist of providing a nice meal and fun activities to all of those low income families, especially to those families that have young kids. I love to cook and help others!…

Through my worship and love towards the hearts of the loss I know that I will be able to heal the sick through the love of Jesus. With my patience, understanding, and Gods grace I will be able to fulfill the calling God has on my life. But through my testimony, I will be able to relate to many people that are lost, but allow them to realize that the only reason I am different is because of Gods love which is full of grace. Just these last few weeks at SEU, God has challenged in so many areas of my life—like prioritizing time for Him, over time to relax. But the most important thing that God has showed me is that I am a dreamer—and because of that, I need to allow the reality of God to be bigger than the dreaming of…
