Even though their situations weren’t the best, they were probably the nicest people I’ve met. On Wednesday there was a family that showed up with three little girls and a seven year old boy. The two oldest girls Maddy and Gretel followed me the entire rest of the week, especially Gretel. I got to see up close sad it truly is. Large groups of people, friends or family having no choice but to sit on blankets in parks or wherever they can all day every day because they can’t find a job. Most of them have little babies and children and that makes it so much worse because you know that there is no possible way that they are able to get the nutrition they need to grow and develop properly. Gretel’s family lives in a house and they are all very kind, watching her and all of the kids dance to the motions in the songs and bringing their parents to join and make crafts and listen to the stories honestly made all of the hours of working I n the hot sun, buying things, not being able to pee for three to four hours, and even showering in makeshift showers with only freezing water in a high school locker room every day for a week worth it. Seeing those kids being able to know they can get food and enjoy themselves every night for a week was so humbling.
To prepare for the VBS we went to Wal-Mart pretty much every day, and we got pretty much the same stuff every single trip. Every night after showers we would get in the van as fast as we could manage and go to Starbucks. I tried so many weird but great drinks during that week. We also met a ton of other teenagers while we were there. I think most of us learned to be more grateful for what we have and that it is worse than
