Personal Narrative: My Midlife Crisis

Decent Essays
I live with my wife and two kids in Secaucus, NJ. I like to engage in various academic and sports activities my kids are involved in. Both of them are passionate about soccer and playing for the town travel teams.
When I got a chance, I enjoyed to spend my time with my family and friends .
I think, Sara Raynold mentioned about a midlife crisis, same is here. My kids feel that I’m going through with it when I decided to continue the MBA program at Plymouth State after a very long break. The younger one even joked at I’m wasting his college savings.
On the professional side, I work as a financial reporting specialist in a firm that consults publicly traded companies in New York City.

I’m looking forward to getting to know everyone here.

Growing up is tough. Every day people go through life with careers that they may not enjoy. Throughout the past few weeks I got the opportunity to interview two people about their jobs, one being a young adult who just started working, while the other was approaching her mid-life with an established career. The advice from both of these individuals was both eye opening and helpful. The age of the interviewee definitely influenced the responses I received.…

Three goals I would set for my first 90 days entering in a role are; • Clarity • Challenges • Commitment First, I would like to get clarity of my job duties and expectations from my leader. Once I receive that information I would like to have some training classes if needed and a designated person for assistance. Secondly, I would try conquering my challenges by making a check list of do’s and don’ts and make sure that I follow up accordingly.…

“Throwing Down The Gauntlet On My Life” I’m a junior at Presbyterian Pan American School. I was born in Brownsville, Texas, but since my parents are Mexican nationals, I grew up in San Fernando, Tamaulipas, Mexico. In 2013, my parents told me to “pack your bags” you are going to Kingsville, Texas. I came to Texas three years ago to attend Presbyterian Pan American School (PPAS), a senior private boarding school in Kingsville, Texas, on an academic scholarship. Talking about different aspects of my life is daunting, but it also allows me to come to terms with my growth as an individual by learning from my failures, confronting obstacles such as adapting to new surroundings, and a different educational system, speaking English properly, and adjusting to a real world working environment.…

Everyone knows the YMCA song, but everyone doesn’t have the same connection to it that I do. This building never contained one life changing event for me, but it has been a pivotal place in my life. A place I’ve referred to as home many times, the YMCA has shaped who I am as a man. This pivotal spot is where I suffered my first traumatic injury, changing how I do things for the rest of my life; but also was the place I went to when coping with family incidents. This institution, in particular the basketball gym, helped me find myself, changing my life forever.…

There are approximately 397,000 children in foster care in the United States of America currently and I used to be one of them. However, foster had not even been near the forefront of my mind that summer. The summer before I started my first year of high school, I had plenty of anxiety about the tall tale I invented in my own mind that stood before me. Stories about how hard high school were numerous and often regaled on the crowded bus ride home by high schoolers who seemed to have the knowledge of every wise teacher in history combined. which that scared me to death; I had always held my position as a good student who followed the rules of my middle school.…

Introduction “Midlife crisis” is something everyone on the way to 40 is familiar with. Popular media has painted it as a moment of reckoning, a time when you gain a new perspective on things (usually after being an emotional trainwreck). Despite this, it’s not really a problem most people pay mind to — at least, up until the point when they’re face to face with it. And when that time comes, midlife hits you hard.…

2014 and 2015 were my fleeting lifespan's worst years. No major, life-or-death events happened. I just have felt so very alone even amongst friends and family. I can't bring myself to talk to anyone about what I'm feeling, this whole bundle of negative emotions constantly accumulating inside me. Talking to people about what I feel just makes me feel selfish, knowing how others are suffering more so.…

There is no one event that marks ones true transition into adulthood; it is series of events, but there are moments that prove you have nearly completed that transition. The transition into adulthood is a gradient, like fading from white to black. It means gaining self confidence, gaining respect in the community, and less reliance on parental guidance. Events that show that one is transitioning into adulthood include getting a drivers license, getting your first car, registering to vote, graduating high school and the like. Even when one of these markers of the transition is crossed, there are always more on the horizon like marriage, having kids, etc.…

All my life I knew I was different, while all my siblings were into playing outside and getting along I would be away off in my own world. I wasn’t doing much, but it was enough for my family to question my always being in a sad or depressing mood. In my family, the thought of anything mental health was just a faze and whoever was going through it would get over it. I didn’t.…
