Personal Narrative: My Middle School Experience

When I was in the 6th grade I had a very big decision to make. My mom had just gotten a job as a principal at Oliver Middle School in Broken Arrow. I had to decide to either stay at my home school or switch schools and attended the school my mom now worked at. This was a very difficult decision and is one of the hardest challenges I have faced.

The beginning of middle school is a very exciting time for many students. You are finally out of elementary school and feel like you fit in with the older kids. My middle school experience was different than most. I did not want to leave elementary school because I didn't want to make the decision I knew was inevitable. I was comfortable where I was and wasn't ready to accept the change middle school would bring. I have been a teacher's kid my entire life, from the time I was in kindergarten all the way up until 7th grade my mom worked at the school I attended, either as a teacher or an administrator. I can honestly say most of the time I hated

I learned a lot about who I was and what I could handle. I went to school on the first day not knowing a single soul, now a lot of the friends I made there are still some of my best friends to date. My 7th grade English teacher Ms. Adkins quickly became like a 2nd mom to me. The impact on my life that she has is something I will always carry with me. She helped me not only to make friends, but she taught me how to be a friend, how to be a better person and helped me find who I wanted to be. She is retiring next year and I hate to see her go but a few months ago my family made the decision to move back to where we’re from, Kentucky. I have no doubt in my mind that the reason I’m able to face this without much struggle is because of the confidence that was instilled in me through her. She is not only the best teacher I have ever had, but she is also the best person I’ve ever had the pleasure of

It quickly went from a nice, fun, vacation to a painful, terrible, nightmare. Just about every year before school starts while my mom has meetings for teachers, my dad takes my sister and I on a small, five day trip to different places. This year, we decided to go to St Louis. Little did I know that this trip would soon turn south very, very, fast.…

From my personal experience, when I was in elementary school I remember my teacher would let us sit on yoga ball it always helped me concentrate and it helped me when I was really active because I could not move around, it will make me fall if I move around. I like the idea of standing desks because I prefer standing a lot but when I need to I could sit down on the tool, but I could still move my legs around and be somewhat active. So if one day you're feeling antsy you can just stand. Also I think if your tired it could help you stay awake. Mark Benden also states that sitting desk can cause kids to be obese, he also says that too much sitting is bad for your health.…

The Path to a Higher Education “Without education, you are not going anywhere in this world” (Malcolm X). In both Frederick Douglass’ article “Learning to Read” and in Malcolm X’s article “A Homemade Education” they discuss the challenges and obstacles that they had to overcome. Frederick Douglass was a man that was born in the horrors of slavery and later became a famous abolitionist speaker in the north. Malcolm X may not have been a man born into slavery, but he was still treated poorly because of his race. X later became a well-known leader during the Civil Rights Movement.…

The rest of the year was great to me, I finally saw the rainbow. I gained many new friends and I was/am doing fairly well in my classes. I overcame an obstacle of mine that was really large, and I am proud of myself for doing so. I finally got to see what it looks like when the clouds part. I went from being a stress mess to a straight success (maybe not success yet, but soon).…

“Don’t forget, the paper is due next Wednesday!” My 8th period teacher, Mrs. Oakford told to my class and I as we streamed out of the cramped classroom on a Friday. We couldn’t wait to bust out of the schools doors and claim our prize of a short freedom for surviving another busy, exhausting, and slow week of middle school. I rushed to my locker, grabbed everything I would need for the homework due Monday, threw it in my bag and headed down the hall collecting my friends to walk to town to start what I would hope would be a slow but fun weekend off The weekend went quicker than I wished and before I knew it, it was late Sunday night and I still hadn’t done my homework, I realized this and got to work.…

Freshmen year was honestly pretty good I had a lot of friends and had a lot of fun in my classes with them, going into Brunswick High School I was a little bit nervous just the fact I would be at the bottom of the totem pole now and would possibly be picked on by the older kids but it turned out to be just a myth, but some of them were definitely scary looking. Some other things I was afraid of was what the class load would be like I didn't know exactly how much tougher it would be but it honestly wasn't to much tougher than middle school. The teachers here were fairly nice didn't have many problems with them but they did definitely hold your behavior to a higher standard. High school was a change from middle school definitely just because…

The beginning of eighth grade, in all of its horror and glory. Students in hordes piling up at the front doors, a jumble of frenzied emotions. New people, new clothes, new supplies, new teachers, new schools, new locker, new classes, new, new, new. I could feel the anticipation in the young sixth graders eyes, the excitement in the seventh graders expressions. Then, there was my grade.…

Prior to middle school, I thought I was satisfied with my position. I had friends, got along with my teachers, excelled in sports, and got decent grades in my classes. Back then, I thought this well-roundedness I sought between these necessities would offer me self-satisfaction. Little did I know, however, that I was going to confront this well-rounded nature of mine during my first awards ceremony in middle school. Among the most intelligent, artistic or athletic of the students present there, I was the one of the few who simply struggled to stand out.…

High school changes people. They express themselves, become opinionated, and they start to look at the world differently as they experience things they have never encountered before. A wise Oliver Wendell Holmes said, “Man’s mind stretched to a new idea never goes back to its original dimensions.” This quote is an excellent way to describe my experience in high school.…

In the seventh grade, I faced a large transition in life. The previous year I had experienced middle school for the first time, but I would make that entrance again. I moved from Texas to North Dakota, where seventh grade was the first year of middle school. I took on those same fears and hopes that I had faced before, but in an unfamiliar place where I had no one except for family to give me support. I tried a lot of new things that year, mainly wrestling.…

At long last I have entered middle school as a 6th grader. The first thing on my mind was to join a sport with my friends. We all easily agreed on basketball, since it was the only one we knew how to play. I somehow ended up showing last for try outs. I didn’t let that get to me and I tried my best with my tutor watching me from the sidelines.…
