I found Geography class quite boring, it was hard to stay awake when you were being taught something you had absolutely no interest in. I never planned on going to Mexico anyways, so I didn't find it important. I did however, pay attention when she said we were going to do a Mexican Food project. We had the option of picking a partner and actually cooking the dish we chose and presented. I love cooking, I always have. So, I knew this was going to be fun for me.

Coming from a Hispanic background means that I have the ability to do more than my peers. Growing up in the United States and living in a Hispanic household gave me the chance to have more than one cultural view. Having more than one cultural view allowed me to develop an open mind that helped broaden my views, and helped me in my life. However, I was often told that the world looks more at your race than it did intelligence, character and integrity. For a while, I believed that statement due to the fact that in middle school, I noticed that there were more successful white people than any other race.…

Tamales Through Time This year’s craziness and smells of carne and my family gathering in my grandparents’ kitchen brings a big, bubbly smile to my face, like always, because I know this means the official start of Christmas, and Christmas means I get to be with my family and Santa is going to bring me presents! My mom says that she heard that I’m on Santa’s nice list for the 5th year in a row! I always look forward to tamale making because I get to be around all my cousins and aunts and uncles and watch them make yummy food for our Christmas Eve feast while I make gingerbread houses! And every year when I ask if I can help this time, grandma always explains while grinning that “you can’t help with the tamales until you’re tall enough to reach the counter because someone so tiny will get knocked into the masa and then we will have tamales that taste like Alejandria!…

The other day I had a craving for Mexican food. I didn't want to do the same old black bean tacos though. Don't get me wrong those or delicious but I'm guilty of eating them way to often.
