Personal Narrative: My Majorette Team

Decent Essays
During my sophomore year in high school, a friend of mine convinced me to try out for the majorette team at my school. I never thought in a million years that I would ever be a majorette. In fact, I didn’t even know what a baton was or how to even twirl one. Even though I was clueless I was ready to learn all that I can. I remember trying out and thinking I would most likely not make the team but I still went out there and tried my best because I believe in the slim possibility that I had a chance. When I found out that I made the team I was exalted with joy, it was the happiest that I had been in a long time. As soon as my dad could put a glove on my hand the learning process began and after my first practice I fell in love with the game. From that point on all I did was softball, it was my safe place, my other home and the one thing I knew I could do something great in. I would always want to just throw with my dad or my brother, as little as I was I wanted to show them that I could catch the hard balls they threw. Of course though, I couldn’t but I was in the process of getting there.…

Imagine a rocket, specifically molded, perfectly symmetrical, prepared to do it’s job exactly how it needs to with no room for error. Seems almost perfect, on the other hand we have the Rockets, my AAA hockey team the summer before sixth grade. It was made up of players from the La Crosse area who played and practiced together every summer for the last few years. We weren’t exactly the most organized team in the sense of having professional attitudes. The ceiling at our practice arena had leaks and water would pour out if it was hit with anything.…

The past six years, the Rochester girls golf team has made it to State and has finished in either 2nd or 3rd place. There has not been a team in the school history to ever win the team title for girls golf. Coach Hill, Coach Mayer, Morgan Savage, Gabby Isaacks, myself and Lindsay Alewelt would tackle Red Tail Run on a cold, windy course to destroy the odds given to us on October 16th and 17th. Through trust, hard work, motivation, and a little luck, the 2015 Rochester girls golf team vanquished their oppositions and took home a state title. One situation where I found myself in a fixed mindset was when I was a freshman at Mountain Pointe high school trying to make the baseball team. At the time, I had a half-hearted passion for baseball that made me want to be on the school baseball team, but I felt that everything would come natural to me because I was Dominican. I was quite proud of how Dominicans were typically great at baseball quite naturally it seemed. However, with this knowledge I became highly critical about everything I did when playing baseball at the high school camps before the baseball tryouts. I did not focus on overall improvement as I tried to ensure that every throw, batting, and pitch was perfect.…

It was October 16, 2012. I was in seventh grade, just a boy to become someone or something. We were loading the bus with our two coaches, Coach Voss and Coach Larh. Coach Voss the offensive coach who liked to make us run, and coach larh, our Defensive coach who taught me everything I known about the defensive side of the ball. This was a big game for me and my fellow teammates this game was going to set the tone for the rest of the season to show that we can be successful.…
