As soon as my dad could put a glove on my hand the learning process began and after my first practice I fell in love with the game. From that point on all I did was softball, it was my safe place, my other home and the one thing I knew I could do something great in. I would always want to just throw with my dad or my brother, as little as I was I wanted to show them that I could catch the hard balls they threw. Of course though, I couldn’t but I was in the process of getting there.…
I talked to my parents and they gave me a big thumbs up. I signed up and started playing. When you start a new team, you usually start at the bottom. I was the Benchwarmer, but I worked hard every practice and every game. I want a show the coaches that I can actually…
I started playing baseball when I was 7 years old and at that time I was actually playing T-Ball. For awhile I played baseball for a place called Twin City. While I was at Twin City I had mostly played the second base position. Twin City was an alright organization because they didn't have players with the best attitudes. Those players with not so good attitudes affected our teams ability to win.…
Imagine a rocket, specifically molded, perfectly symmetrical, prepared to do it’s job exactly how it needs to with no room for error. Seems almost perfect, on the other hand we have the Rockets, my AAA hockey team the summer before sixth grade. It was made up of players from the La Crosse area who played and practiced together every summer for the last few years. We weren’t exactly the most organized team in the sense of having professional attitudes. The ceiling at our practice arena had leaks and water would pour out if it was hit with anything.…
Premier: Take 2 It was a hot and sweaty practice. My heart was pounding out of my chest. All you could see was torn turf and padded up lacrosse players. It was my second time trying out for this team, the Premier Lacrosse Group didn’t want me last time…
After writing an essay, being interviewed by a panel of three women from the axillary unit, and competing against three other girls, I was the one that was chosen. I felt proud because to me it was a huge deal to represent my school. I wanted to show my school and…
My friend and I sat at the computer for hours. We watched and we dreamed. It's what you do when you are 8. As cheerleaders, we watched and idolized the best of the best. One of those elite teams happened to be here in North Carolina, my home state.…
The past six years, the Rochester girls golf team has made it to State and has finished in either 2nd or 3rd place. There has not been a team in the school history to ever win the team title for girls golf. Coach Hill, Coach Mayer, Morgan Savage, Gabby Isaacks, myself and Lindsay Alewelt would tackle Red Tail Run on a cold, windy course to destroy the odds given to us on October 16th and 17th. Through trust, hard work, motivation, and a little luck, the 2015 Rochester girls golf team vanquished their oppositions and took home a state title. Leaving myself the greatest memory of my High School experience.…
One situation where I found myself in a fixed mindset was when I was a freshman at Mountain Pointe high school trying to make the baseball team. At the time, I had a half-hearted passion for baseball that made me want to be on the school baseball team, but I felt that everything would come natural to me because I was Dominican. I was quite proud of how Dominicans were typically great at baseball quite naturally it seemed. However, with this knowledge I became highly critical about everything I did when playing baseball at the high school camps before the baseball tryouts. I did not focus on overall improvement as I tried to ensure that every throw, batting, and pitch was perfect.…
The summer going into my junior year, I tried out for the summer baseball team. However, although I had never anticipated there would be a problem with my talent levels, considering I had played freshman and sophomore year, I did not make the roster. I was devastated. In the eight years of my baseball career, this was by far the lowest of lows. When faced with adversity and defeat many people decide to give up and quit.…
It was October 16, 2012. I was in seventh grade, just a boy to become someone or something. We were loading the bus with our two coaches, Coach Voss and Coach Larh. Coach Voss the offensive coach who liked to make us run, and coach larh, our Defensive coach who taught me everything I known about the defensive side of the ball. This was a big game for me and my fellow teammates this game was going to set the tone for the rest of the season to show that we can be successful.…
On the Ice “Way to go guys,” Derek said as some of his teammates came of the ice. They had just scored another goal in the game against Wisconsin and the score was now 2:1 with them winning. Yet he wasn’t in goal for this game either. Derek is one of the two goalies on the Lincoln Stars Hockey team and is going to Harvard next year to play hockey, and for school. The past summer he has been working really hard and studying as well as he possibly can so he does good next year at Harvard, which is going to be a tough school that will expect a lot from him.…
I worked hard to achieve it because I knew that I possessed the required skills. The volunteering helped me to open my eyes to the things that I didn’t always notice and made me a better person in the process. I learned how to better manage my time in order to get everything done that I wanted to while keeping my normal lifestyle. I stepped up in many ways and put myself into situations that I wouldn’t have normally put myself in, getting me out of my comfort zone and preparing me for my future. Due to the hard work that I went through, I was able to put it all on my next application, rewarding me with the membership that I had strived so hard for.…
I have known from a young age that I wanted to do something exceptional in my life. Something about helping others drew me in, so I knew a career in the medical field would be my best fit. It was not until a traumatic day in my life occurred that made me realize I was bound to be a nurse. I have played volleyball for five year, my senior year was not an exception. Volleyball was the only sport I played and my passion.…
During my junior year of high school, one of my friends who wrestled for the school talked me into joining the team. I knew nothing about the sport, but decided to join the team anyway. I bought myself wrestling shoes and headgear and went to the first wrestling practice of the season. The wrestling room reeked of sweat and was relatively small.…
