Personal Narrative: My Love Of Softball

Improved Essays
I came into college with two best friends and still have them, thankfully. I went to high school with them both and got to watch them play softball for our high school. But now things have changed. I guess you can say we “split up”, one is at CSUP and the other is with me at UCCS. But I have learned many things about softball and being one of their biggest fans. I have grown a love for their sport just as much as our friendship has grown. I have made a list of a few things that I have learned while loving the sport they play!

1. Come prepared!
For the games that I have been to I have learned a few things and this is one of the most important in my eyes. These games can be crazy. By crazy I mean that they can be in any weather condition. Weather ranging from a brutal heat to insane windstorm. But always come prepared because if you are ready for one situation the alternate will happen. There are three things that I know I should have no matter what. One of the things I also have a bottle of sunscreen. A couple of games in New Mexico taught me that sunscreen is a must. Also, have some sort of jacket with you. Something to help keep you warm from the wind or a chance of rain. Lastly, a water bottle is a must. It gets hot or your mouth is dry from sunflower seeds whatever it is you need to stay hydrated.

Winning is great!
This is a no brainer. Winning can be fun and exciting. Yet nothing is more exciting than seeing your best friend come out of the dugout with a smile on their face. Seeing them excited makes you excited. The best part is you get to share a cool moment with

There has been bruises, cuts, scrapes, tears, sprains and breaks but they’ve all been worth it. The five A.M. wake ups, the long, midnight drives home, and the early Sunday practices are all worth it. Worth feeling the rush of rounding third, ready to score or the feeling of the ball jumping off the bat. Throughout my twelve years of experience, I have made countless sacrifices for softball but they have all been worth it because of the way the game has influenced me as a person and my life overall. Softball has impacted me by teaching me indispensable lessons.…

Now, I am chasing my dream by trying to become one of those greats who played the game.…

When we finally got there the sun was shiny and bright and there was not a cloud in the sky. I went back to the batting cages and found all of my teammates. After we were done with that we went to the field we were playing on to get warmed up. The field we played wasn’t the biggest field I’ve played but it was average. We started warming up and taking some pop flies and once that was over it was time to go.…

I never played before that because I was always too scared too. I thought that people would make fun of me or say stuff and thankfully nobody did. My two older sisters played softball for a while now and I was never as brave as them to play.…

One long hot summer day I decided to watch the television in my living room. When the television came on the channel was on ESPN; and softball came on it was the Florida Gators vs. Florida State. After watching the game I started to fall in love with the game of softball, everything that comes with it especially the intensity. When my parents came home I told them that I wanted to tryout for softball. Freshman year the day of March 14th, 2016 I stepped in the gym ready for tryouts.…

Softball has been my passion since before I could walk, but that was a given. I grew up at the ball diamonds. Both of my parents would play slow pitch softball with a group of friends at our local fields and I loved how the game worked. Other kids would run off and play at the playground nearby but seldom would I follow. Most of the time I would sit in the dug-out of my whichever parent I was with that Friday night, and watch them play.…

I loved playing with that team because they were all my friends and I had played with them for so long.…
