Personal Narrative: My Love Of Football

Improved Essays
As I was, once again, sitting on the bench watching my fellow teammates play baseball against another team. I thought to myself, I loved playing football and wrestling, all of my experiences during those seasons were awesome... and then came baseball season. The only sport which I have grown to hate. As I continued to think I began to realize the head coach completely destroyed my love for baseball. I am like a son to my football and wrestling coaches. The baseball coach had favorites, and I was never one of them. No matter how hard I would try, the relationship would never be the same as it is with my other coaches. In that moment I realized, that over the years of play sports my relationships with the coaches was one of the most important parts about playing. After the game that night I laid in bed evaluating the different relationships I have had with my coaches. I thought back to sophomore year when I got moved up, how everyone …show more content…
After that day, the coaches started giving me a lot of attention. Coach Premo would stay after practice and work with me; we would also go to the YMCA to work out before school every day. Premo showed me what it meant to be a winner and what it meant to leave all you have on the mat. Finally, my thought unfortunately drifted onto my least favorite…baseball. I angrily paced around my bedroom as even thinking about the coach made my pulse raise and blood boil. I always tell myself I should say something, tell the coach how I really feel. But every time one of my fellow team members tries to say something to the coach he shuts them down and walks away. He never listens, not even to the parents. Every single time someone’s mom or dad mentions or suggests something to the coach he always blames the player and punishes him. So I just keep mouth shut, it is

I was student-coaching a practice the week before the cheerleading teams showcase. My 8th grade athletes that I had coached for a while now were very nervous about the performance. Due to the lack of organization from the head coaches, the most hard working athletes lost faith in their team. Never would I define them as quitters. When they came to me after practice showing me texts of all the girls that wanted to quit, my heart sank.…

My Relationship with Football I took two steps to the left, made a pocket with my hands and took the handoff from our quarterback Jason. I continued to run to the outside looking desperately for a hole to cut up. I saw to the right of me our tight end sealing the linebacker and thought now is the time. I stuck my left leg in the ground and accelerated up field. Then out of nowhere another linebacker came and hit me; I stayed on my feet but the defender had a hold of me.…

Playing football has always been a great passion of mine. Ever since I was little, I loved to watch and play football with my older brother and my dad. Going into elementary school, I would attend my brother's practices and watch excitedly from the sideline waiting my turn to go out and compete. I got my chance in second grade and I made the most of it. There were two teams in my grade and on the better of the two teams I was the quarterback which was exciting, but even better, I played my favorite position since I started watching football which was linebacker.…

There’s nothing like the sound of the echoing of balls bouncing, and shoes squeaking on the hardwood floor of a gym. For me this was a very familiar place and sound of the many years playing the sport I love, the game of basketball. This time I wasn’t the one playing, I was coaching. Last fall I was asked by my high school varsity coach if I would help out coaching the freshmen team. My first initial thought was no, but I told him that I would think about it and get back to him as soon as possible.…

I woke up early on a Saturday morning, knowing that it is going to be a great day for football. Football takes up the majority of my Saturday, from playing in my game at San Joaquin Memorial, to watching college ball throughout the day, and going to the Fresno State game at Bulldog Stadium. It does sound like a lot of football, but for me it is the sport I love, and I am very grateful to have it in my life. When I stepped outside, the weather was perfect. The sun was shining bright, there was a light breeze in the air, the sky was wonderful and blue, and there was no ash in sight.…

As a baseball player of our school, I learned how to accept the reality and watch out for our team. I was not the brightest player because I never played baseball. If I were to complain for my minutes out in the field and be in a bad mood at the dug out, it would have affected the whole team because in baseball everyone has their role. I might not have won any awards for this sport, but I already started training so that when the season comes around I would be in advantage in competition for the starting…

Throughout the last week I have been able to learn how personal values effect the counseling relationship in various ways. One thing that I was able to remind myself of is that everyone brings a unique perspective to the table. Every client has their own set of values in the same way that every counselor does. One thing I have been able to learn as to not shy away from those personal values in a professional setting but to try and fully understand them for the benefit of myself and especially of the client. Through careful introspection, I took the time to really think about what holds value to me in my life and as a counselor.…

A Football Life The statement “participated in Varsity football”, doesn't nearly come close enough to explain the amount the impact that football has had on my life. Next to my parents and my church, football has shaped me to the person I am today more than anything else. As I look back on my high school career the words of Vince Lombardi hold more truth than ever when he said “Football is like life - it requires perseverance, self-denial, hard work, sacrifice, dedication and respect for authority.” Football has been a major part of my life for as long as I can remember.…
