Personal Narrative: My Love Of Acting

I have been fascinated with acting since I was a little girl, and when I started taking lessons a few years ago, I had no idea what I got myself into. In a total of one year, I acquired not just physical skills, but I also learned what it took to truly fulfill what it means to be a great actress. From reading and learning about auditioning to actually going out and demonstrating my skills, I learned how to fall in love with a hobby and, therefore, turn it into a passion.

It all started with a book. My acting coach assigned us a reading assignment, which I only completed for the love of acting. The book, titled Audition, is by Michael Shurtleff and was my heart and soul only a week after getting it. Through every page, I was taught how to audition in a professional setting. This obviously helped a lot when it came to the auditions I went to later on; however, Shurtleff mostly made known to

I learned this through the power of emotion. My instructor always taught us that empathy was the way to becoming someone else. Acting is like filing through books in a library, picking and choosing the most interesting ones. Similarly, in acting, one must file through every emotion he or she has ever felt and pick it apart until they meet the feelings of the character being portrayed. We had to pull from our own emotions in order to fully act out another’s. This requires a lot of self evaluation. Pulling from my own experiences was a challenge, especially when the situation I had to relate to was not a happy one. Despite this challenge, I somehow always managed to pull through. By expressing emotion and delving into unfamiliar concepts in acting, I discovered much about myself. Now, I think of acting in a whole new way. It isn’t just a pastime or something I might be interested in. Acting has become a part of me because I have learned so much through

I pick something that I want or like and I cling to it. KM: Ever since I was very young, I 've always loved performing for my parents and in shows. I always wanted to be out there performing for people--singing, dancing, doing plays. I remember I 'd always stand in front of my TV as a little girl, and I would act out scenes from my favorite movies. So all that inspired me to become an actor because being an actor allows you to be that outgoing, inspiring, positive person you…

I was able to see a different approach on how to grab the audience’s attention from the other director’s performance. The scene at the same time was very comical, but also held you on the edge of your seat with its high tension and wonderful transformation of a relationship between two characters on stage. This really grabbed my attention and taught me that a transformation of a relationship on stage really enriches the performance. Overall, the knowledge I gained from this activity in class really helped me establish a foundation and base for the mechanics of…

It is not the singular grand achievement that a person should be judged upon; rather, it’s the collection of smaller triumphs that should determine one’s character. Therefore, it makes sense that my biggest obstacles manifest in my day-to-day life; for instance, my character had been truly tested in Boone High’s spring play production--the lead-up to the premier had been scared by setbacks, marred by the lack of memorization, and saturated by stress. First and foremost, theatre is more than just an extracurricular activity or resume fluff because it has taught me several lessons; and, in hindsight, theater has exposed some character flaws, as well. For example, my abilities as an actor outshine my poor time management skills--attributed to the fact I have a severely busy schedule. Nevertheless, I still learned my lines and performed one of our most memorable and beloved shows.…

It has made me humbler, more persistent, and more willing to follow through with unwanted tasks. The entire experience of acting has provided me with self-discipline and willpower that has changed me in a way nothing else ever could. Of two things I am sure: that I will always keep the theatre in my life, and that I will always keep in mind the lessons it has taught me. And eventually, I did get the lead role I always wanted- but not in a play.…

“Acting is the ability to live truthfully under the given imaginary circumstances,” says Sanford Meisner. One of the careers that has stagnated to one of the most admirable jobs in the eyes of teens is acting. Acting, defined as the art or occupation of performing in plays, movies, or television productions as a job that can take place in all forms of media. The job can be hard to accomplish and gain a good reputation to perform the part right every time, which can be hard to stay calm and collected through the daily stresses. Pursuing a career in acting, a job field that is continuing to grow in popularity, can be both fun and frustrating.…

One of my favorite branches of theatre is comedic improvisation. Comedic improvisation, or improv, is where performers create everything (plot, characters, etc.) on the spot. If you've seen shows like "Whose Line is it Anyway," then you probably have an idea of how improv work. I love performing improv because it helped me be more outgoing, requires a lot of creative thinking, ends up being fun, and it's challenging. Improv helped me break out of my shell.…

Even when sharing a smile in context and locking eyes with another actor during a performance, it not only represents a moment in the show, but it morphs into a beautiful and colorful reality for the audience. It is the show that lifts the audience from their closed cocoon and lets them bloom. Now if I told this to anyone who was not invested in the dramatic arts or any form of art, they would probably think I was crazy. But being crazy about theatre, screen acting, and musical theatre is what drives me to love acting and singing, share my talents, and lead others to love the actor inside of them. For many theatre leaders and teachers, there seemed to be a fundamental problem with the way people were acting. The first to actually pinpoint the problem and come up with a solution for it was Konstantin Stanislavski. He, then, laid the foundation for many more students to create their own philosophies. Stanislavski did a number of things to improve the theatre; however, one of the most important things he contributed was method acting. Method acting has shaped the way actors perform and has improved the acting experience.…
