I think my reading has improved because I use better vocabulary and I can understand what I am reading. The reading strategies have helped me to become a better reader. I still rely on DJE, T2T like I did when I took basic reading as well. They are very helpful strategies that help me to read better and think about what I am reading. For this and other classes my goals are to understand what I am reading and being able to sum up what I read with very little difficulty.…

Now I could lie and make up stuff that made me like reading and writing but I see no point in that. Honestly I don’t have a lot of memories of reading and writing from when I was a little kid and I can tell you now that football hasn’t helped me at remembering those memories either. With that being said I do remember some memories, some are good and also bad.…

I second all of the points brought up by Chris in his responce to your incredible writing. I was deeply moved by your literacy narrative. By simply having the pleasure of spending the past month or so with you, I would have never known about the part of your life that you wrote so passionately about in your literacy narrative. I often find it so intriguing that everyone has a story that resonates so deeply with him or her. That is exactly why I think large projects such as Humans of New York (HONY) or class assignments such as this one are so important.…

Project #1: Literacy Narrative I remember walking across the lawn from our tiny add on classroom, up the stairs, and into the second grade class. Walking to my assigned desk directly in front of the window, I sat down in front of my best friend. Sometimes, sleepy and tired, I stared at the giant oak tree in our school yard and watching the clouds move. My first experience with writing was in fourth grade.…

Literacy Narrative I did a lot of writing while I was in the tenth grade. The English teacher I had at the time was the best when it came down to writing. I did not have too much interest in writing at the time but Mrs. Perez changed that, she gave me a new perception on writing and how it can change society. Mrs. Perez would always recommend really good books, one of which was a book called “His Dark Materials”. This story is about a young girl and her allies, fight for the discover of a dark substance called the “Dust”.…

My writing experience: I didn’t start to read until I was in first grade. Every week we would go to library to check-out two books and take a test on the books we read on a computer. Every day in English we read a short story to ourselves then we would play games dealing with the story to make it fun. To be honest I never really did a lot of writing in Elementary , Middle, or High school so I can’t pinpoint when I started writing. In essay writing I learned its always good to express yourself with your own opinion.…

Receiving a grade of a 92 out of 100 on a paper is not necessarily an unacceptable outcome for many people, yet this grade was one of my lowest grades out of all my papers in English 1101. The 92 my literacy narrative earned inspired me to revise this paper for the final. My literacy narrative was my first college paper and after the two papers I have written in this class I thought I was more equipped to fix my errors within this paper. I chose to write a short story as a rendition of my literacy narrative. I thought it would be interesting to write a story through my mom’s perspective, reactions, and impact on my growth as a reader and writer.…

Over the first semester I feel I have been appropriately challenged in the area of writing we have done this year. I learned many new skills, but the most important one involves English and how to write properly. As for the first writing, I really did not understand what was right and what was wrong. Because I never paid close attention to specific rules in how to write. I truly believe it has been hard for me.…

I sat in the back of the car with my head resting against the window, almost quivering in anticipation. The book in my hands was not long by my current standards, but 309 pages was a lot for an eight year old to absorb. After spending nearly a week carrying the first volume of Harry Potter with me everywhere I went, I was anxious and excited to finish the novel. At first, I had no intention or desire to read Harry Potter; on the contrary, the week before my dad handed me his copy of the first book, I had told a friend that it was “stupid” and not worth my time. I begrudgingly started reading at my dad’s request, soon marveling at the incredible world contained between the pages in my hands.…

The city of Reading has a population of 87,893 people, and is the fifth largest city in the state of Pennsylvania. Over forty percent of the population in Reading lives below the poverty line. Growing up in Reading, I have seen a lot of things a child in a rural or suburban setting might not, things most kids do not need to see while growing up. Students as young as seventh grade are more worried about joining a gang than they are getting good grades. Girls at the age of fourteen walk around school with a child growing inside of them.…

What vivid moments do you experience when reading, writing, or activities that involved them? Or what frustrated you about reading and writing? My experience with reading and writing start with my teacher from elementary all the way up to my teachers in high School, Ripley, Tennessee school district, and University of Memphis. My teachers during school remind me about the things I must do for class more than my college professors.
