Personal Narrative: My Life In Texas

Decent Essays
Living in Texas is not what people portray it to be. I have never been to a rodeo, I have never owned a pair of cowgirl boots, and “Howdy” is nowhere in my vocabulary. However, I do have big hair and have a slight Southern accent. I live in a big suburban city called Arlington. I love my state and my city. I think that being a Southern belle has shaped me into being the woman I am becoming but I do not think that where I came from plays a significant role in my upbringing. I believe that it was the people who have raised me that have helped me become the person I am today. I am fortunate to have both a mother and father in my home. Having both parents is a blessing. In my dual credit class sociology class, my professor always touched on family.

Vaca seeks to dispel rumors that there may be nothing to gain in the New World and to alleviate fears the Natives will interfere with any exploration in order to secure continued funding for his goals. He writes primarily to those in Spain who would have the money and time to invest in the exploration of a country they have never seen.…

As a young armadillo growing up in Texas during the 1820s, my life was peaceful and happy. The Federalists who held power in Mexico left me, my fellow armadillos, and the Anglo Americans alone to enjoy and work the land. However, in 1829, the Centralists gained control of the Mexican government and the freedom we enjoyed gradually eroded. As the Mexican government imposed more regulations on the Anglo Americans, the tension which had existed between the two groups due to the Nacogdoches land grant, become even more palpable.…

When I was 16 I moved to from California to Texas. During this time, I assume everyone in Texas wears a cowboy hat, boots, talks in a southern accent such as saying y’all and other such stereotypes. I assume the general understanding of Texas from what I was taught as a kid in movies, music, and shows. Once I moved to Texas that that type of thought was used against me, my classmates assume I probably l go to the beach and surf and have met plenty of celebrities when I lived in California.
