Personal Narrative: My Life In San Clemente

Late at night you can hear a loud boom and then the night sky light up. New comers to our community ask what it is that, people in San Clemente will tell them that is the sound of freedom. It is the Marine Corp at Camp Pendleton practicing night maneuvers.
I want to join the Marines over the other branches probably due to how I have grown up next to Camp Pendleton. Living in San Clemente offers our community an opportunity to get to know the Marines stationed at Camp Pendleton and they have had a tremendous influence on my life. Many of my coaches and my Boy Scout Master served in the Marine Corp. I admire them for their military service, commitment to family, community and our nation. I worked with the range master on approval of design and logistics. I designed the deck, created a bill of materials, generated a work schedule, held a fund raiser and received discounts from local vendors. I then lead a team of six people and managed the construction. I spent over 100 hours on the project.
• Camp Counselor at Camp Pupukea in Hawaii. I have worked at the camp for the last three summers. I lead scouts and adults in activities taught merit badge classes, worked on conservation projects and life guarded.
• Member Yale Model Congress: lead a committee and passed a bill to fund educational opportunities for people in the Armed Services.
• Attended RYLA Camp (Rotary Youth Leadership Award). Youth leadership training camp designed to enhance personal development, leadership skills and good citizenship.
• AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) Peer Tutor: tutor younger students.
• Leadership positions in BSA: Eagle Scout rank o Member Venturing Crew o Held numerous leadership positions: Patrol Leader, Asst. Patrol Leader, Den Chief and Quartermaster, Activity Chair

I believe that I will be a strong addition to the Marine Corp due to my deep sense of patriotism, commitment to values and the discipline that I have learned to apply to follow through with my
