Throughout the course of my short seventeen years, I have grown and learned many things. I grew up in a small rural town called Elk Creek. There are no strangers in Elk Creek; people sleep with their doors unlocked and their windows open. Everyone who has grown up in a small town can agree that friendship and community become a second nature trait. Although I have copious amounts of love and respect for where I grew up; I believe that I do not belong there.…

Growing up in Michigan has been a wonderful experience, but upon completing my education I would like to experience a new area. Taking every life experience I have had and apply it in new ways to other parts of the United States, different from where I got to grow up. By taking what I know, I can spread what I have learned to other citizens with different life styles or experiences. I think a suburban city not to far from a big city is an ideal place to live and start an independent life. Having the option and getting to explore a big city is great as you learn valuable lessons that everyone should know while applying everything I learned living in a suburb community.…

A study conducted in 1998 by the University of Michigan found that high-risk students are eight to 10 times less likely to drop out in the 11th and 12th grades if they enroll in career and technical programs instead of a general program of study. Furthermore, 81% of dropouts say relevant, real-world learning opportunities would have kept them in high school. Additionally, that study noted that CTE students are less likely than general-track students to fail a course or to be absent. CTE programs provide an answer to the questions teachers frequently receive in a classroom such as why do we have to learn this or when am I ever going to use this in my life?…

I’ve lived my entire life in Indiana, as have my parents. My mom and dad were raised close to Monroe and went to Adams Central, where they met and fell in love. They ended up moving north to Fort Wayne where they had my sister and I. We began our schooling in FWCS, but we moved farther north to the tiny town of Huntertown later, which led to my sister and I switching to NACS for my high schooling and her middle and high schooling. Due to all of the events that have happened here in Indiana throughout my life, and due to most of my immediate family living in the area, I have a desire to continue living and working here.…
