Personal Narrative: My Life In Poland

My life changed the summer before 6th grade. I had just come home from having spent two months in Poland on vacation visiting family and was ready to begin my first year of junior high school. I was excited to see all my friends, since I was not able to talk to them almost all of summer break. I remember walking into the lunchroom on the first day of school, picking up my schedule, and then seeing my two best friends and going to say hi. I was surprised to see they all had cell phones, something they did not have before summer started. I admit I was kind of jealous because they were playing on their phones and texting each other even though they were standing next to one another, and I felt left out. Another negative is the loss of both physical and social interaction and genuine communication with others. That is one result that I definitely noticed after the first couple months of becoming a cell phone user. Instead of calling my parents after to school to let them know I was home, I would just shoot a quick text not wanting to “waste time” with a phone call. Sophomore year I read a book with a profound sense of alienation and loneliness, called Of Mice and Men. Everyone in the book was alienated, the two main characters, a handicapped man, a man of a different ethnicity, and a woman. Even though they had many people surrounding them they still felt lonely inside. They each had something so small yet so noticeably different that set them apart from the others. As did I. When I was just 7 years old when my parents decided to move to the United States.…

Middle School Mid-Life Crisis Middle school, a time of cringe worthy moments and regret. I like to refer to this story as my “Middle School Mid-Life Crisis”, since I questioned the purpose of going to school almost every day, and never felt motivated to do anything. Dreading almost every day of school, not having stable mental, emotional, or physical health, and feeling dissatisfied with myself as a student. My mind set was always on countdown mode, “I just have to make it through this class period. I only have 20 more problems to do.”…
