Personal Narrative: My Life In Mexico

Improved Essays
The most significant event in my life that has had the biggest impact on me has to be coming to the United States from Mexico. I believe my life would’ve been much more different now had I stayed in Mexico, and my parents seem to think so too. Almost all of the differences affected me positively, however there were some things that might have benefitted me in a way, The first topic I want to discuss is how my social life would’ve been affected if I had stayed in Mexico. First off, based off of the stories I hear from my uncles and other relatives, I would’ve been partying and just out more in general had I stayed in Mexico. Slide 1: The first highlight of my summer was going to Isla Mujeres and Tulum in Mexico as my family and I’s yearly trip to somewhere in the world. I went with my mom Mari, my dad Humberto, my sister Anais, and I Celine. We have been to Isla Mujeres many many times before so we always try to do our same traditions that we have been doing since the beginning such as going to the Turtle Farm and getting there on golf cart and then buying rotisserie chicken and beans, soup, and spaghetti in bags and eating it on the beach. Another tradition that we did was go to my parents church that they got married in to see how much it has changed. A Lot of the time we went to the beach and either brought our own food or bought some from the restaurants along…

It was a warm summer day in Cancun Mexico. I wake up from the cries of my baby sister, Stella, as she cuddles into my mom's arms. It took a while to calm her down, but after her big tantrum, my parents, my sisters and I, made our way downstairs where the buffet was served. There, we sat down and had a huge splendid breakfast. I had an omelet, bacon, fruit, pancakes and an orange juice.…

I didn’t know what to expect coming back to the U.S. I was starting the third grade when my parents decided to move back the U.S. I was raised in a Spanish speaking household, went to school that the only language they spoke was Spanish. So moving back to America was big deal to me, meaning I had to start basically a new life with totally different people, new language, new friends, new everything. It changed my life in a totally complete way, when I started school here it was different compared to school in Mexico. They were learning different things which made it more complicated for me to learn. As going to school I had to take a class which was called “ESOL”, which helped me learn English.…

It was on a day, a day soon after the beginning of 7th grade. I think it was 5th hour, and I was in Geography class. Ms. Merritt had been teaching us about Mexico. I found Geography class quite boring, it was hard to stay awake when you were being taught something you had absolutely no interest in. I never planned on going to Mexico anyways, so I didn't find it important.…

The American Dream is becoming harder to achieve. A report from the Pew Charitable Trusts found that “most Americans raised at the bottom of the income ladder never reach the middle rung.” Growing up in a poor migrant family I am experiencing many challenges that poor people have to overcome to move up. Had my parents not come to the United States when I was a child, I would have not had an opportunity get out of poverty. If I stayed in Mexico my possibility to have gone to get an formal education would have been less, considering the cost of school and education quality in Mexico is not affordable or good.…
