Personal Narrative: My Life In Killen, Alabama

Improved Essays
I lived in Killen, Alabama for all of my life, until my dad got a new job offer. My dad was a Resource manager for Weyerhaeuser, a company that owns many lumber mills. He would always be out of town and away because of work, so when he got this new job offer he couldn’t help but accept the offer. He had a choice of being a mill manager for lumber mills in either South Carolina, Mississippi, or Georgia. He chose the mill in Mississippi because we would still be close to our family in Alabama. The mill was in Bruce, Mississippi, and my parents wanted my brother, my sister, and me to go to a good school and get a good education. My parents decided that it would be best for us to move to Oxford, Mississippi, because it is one of the best …show more content…
I didn’t know anyone, I didn't know where my classes were, and I didn’t know if kids were going to like me. The next morning I woke up and I just wanted to go back to sleep forever. I went into the kitchen and my mom was there making breakfast for all of us. She said that it “was going to be alright.” Those simple words calmed my nerves down just a little. The car ride to school seemed like an eternity. Then I was there. I wanted to hop back into the car and drive back home. However, I had to be a big girl and power through the day. I went inside the doors and there were kids everywhere. I felt like an ant in the middle of all these huge giants. Everyone was talking to their best friends wondering what they did over the summer and what all happened. I went to the office and got my schedule. By the time I got out of the office, the bell had rang and everyone was rushing to their classes. No one really talked to me until my third period class, where I met some new people. They were some of the nicest people I had met before. Little did I know that I would still be good friends with them three years later. After third period, I went to my fourth period class where I did not know anyone. I felt so alone. I was anxiously waiting for this class period to

It felt sort of like in the book when Jeannette says, “We moved around like nomads” (Walls 19). I was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, and my family moved to Zanesville, Ohio when I was about nine months old. That move was hardly a tragic experience for me seeing as I don’t remember it, so I don’t think it really counts. I lived in Zanesville until I was almost nine years old. This was the only place I had ever known, and when my parents said that we were moving, I was in complete disbelief.…

For two weeks, I stayed in Charleston, South Carolina. I didn’t know much about the place, except that I referred to it as an army town because that’s where my sister and her husband, who was in the military, stayed. I was reluctant to go, but Charleston had a lot to offer me; a new change of pace and some new scenery was much more satisfying than spending the two weeks stuck in Iowa doing the same old routine. The weather was mystical in Charleston.…

Manda Humphrey Honors English Memoir Personally, I don’t consider my life to be extremely unique or interesting. I don’t have any musical or athletic talents and I’m not a prodigy in any sense of the word. My skills are more out of the ordinary; for example, I love to decorate and design rooms, and I’m constantly changing mine. I have passion for only a handful of things, one being my family, especially my mother. I also feel very passionate about feminism and the state of Michigan, specifically Marquette, Michigan.…

I grew up in a small town in Southern New Jersey, where the houses were very large and the community was very nice. The development I lived in had many other children my age which made it a very enjoyable childhood. Living in this nice community gave us access to the community pool that my friends and I enjoyed very much though hot summer days. A very short commute down the road you’d find many shopping plazas with great restaurants such as Texas Roadhouse, Buffalo Wild Wings, and Applebee’s. Living in South Jersey was a highlight in my life I will never forget.…
