Personal Narrative: My Life In Goldsboro

Improved Essays
Being someone who has lived in Goldsboro my whole life, I've watched it. Through it's up and down, but mostly through its growth. By attempts and success to rebuild downtown to a hotspot everyone loves to visit and explore for example. I have grown to call it my home and be proud to say it. Much of my experience through downtown is through my mother. She is the director of the performing arts theater and works very closely with downtown to bring life and culture to it. She is my inspiration. Through the last decade, I've followed her into meetings and events around Goldsboro, meeting many people and seeing what they do. I developed interests in what they do and thought about my future through them. Through These people(especially my mother)

I was born in Holly Springs, Mississippi on July 16, 1862, as the eldest of eight children. Both of my parents, Jim and Lizzie Wells, were slaves at the time. After Emancipation, my father became a first board member of trustees at Rust College in Holly Springs; Rust College was founded by the Freedman’s Aid. My mother learned basic education there and I attended the school for the rest of my childhood. When I was a teenager, both of my parents and my youngest brother died in a yellow-fever epidemic.…

Growing up in Youngstown, Ohio I had the pleasure of living in a diverse community. I personally have never really felt uncomfortable to communicate with another person, no matter the race, gender, or religion that are. I believe that growing up in Youngstown helped me by giving me the ability to communicate with people of different categories every day. The only people that I would consider to avoid is people that seem sketchy. If I notice someone that looks like they are up to no good or just flat out not a nice person then I would avoid that person.…

The Barbie house along with all of its occupants was the hardest to give away. Since Barbie dolls were difficult to get in Russia, my father would send me some from the United States. As my mom prepared for her trip to the States to undergo chemotherapy treatments, I reluctantly relinquished my most prized possessions. Assuming that the cure was just around the corner and to shelter me from the battle, it was decided that I would move to the Republic of Georgia to live with my aunt. While the year’s I spent in Georgia during my mom’s illness and after her passing were filled with hardships, my subsequent life in the United States and, ultimately, all of the opportunities that I have been given by the many individuals involved in my upbringing, solidifies in me a strong belief that adversity is surmountable.…

When I first visited Indiana this past summer, I didn’t know what to expect. I had heard that the Kelley School of Business was really nice, but I never really thought it would be as amazing as it was. After our official tour, my father and I walked to Kelley and decided to check it out. At first, I was excited by the physical aspects of the building; a seemingly new school with incredibly facilities was exactly what I was looking for in a business school. As we continued our unofficial tour, the students that were present kept approaching us and asking if we needed any help finding anything, and I instantly knew that I wanted to be around students that are helpful, kind, and fun to be around, which is what Indiana showed that they could offer…

There’s this one route that has me stuck on not being able to be my best. I say this because at 7:06 a.m. I drop my daughter off at school. The D12 going to Southern Avenue is always late. He is always conversing with the customers when they get on the bus, and my biggest issue is the bus driver sometimes sitting at a bus stop waiting for someone. For an example one Thursday morning I and another young lady got on the bus at Lime Street.…

After I graduated high school a few years ago, I attended the University of Alabama for a short time before I decided that I did not want to be in school at the moment, and would rather work until I was ready to go back to school. Being in the small town of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, was a culture shock to me being that I was born and raised in the suburbs of Washington D.C., and then moved to Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, where I always had plenty of activities to choose from. Coming to Union College was not something I had been planning for a long time; it was very last minute and was a difficult decision to make seeing that I had already left college in the past, partial reasoning because I was not happy in a small town: I felt trapped. Ever since the year 2012, I have moved five times living in four different states—Alabama, Florida, Maryland, and Kentucky—which has been stressful for me to say the least. The move to Barbourville, Kentucky was not entirely easy, it was difficult to leave my family and move to a part of the U.S. that I had never visited before.…

Hello mother, When I left for the city of Boston to perhaps become a seamstress, I came across a blockage. The life in Boston was quite dull and drearier. I understand we were comfortable, but it did not feel as a place for a woman. I wanted to become my own, rather than be married off at a young age and have children like you and my sisters have done. I appreciate the mouths that have feed me and I never dare speak ill of you all, but it felt quite restricting in our humble one bedroom house with 10 people living in it.…
