Both of my Grandparents lived in Germany during World War Two. My Opa was 16 and my Oma was 15. Nearing the end of the war, my Opa was captured by the Germans in Munich. To save his life he lied to the Nazis, saying he was on special orders from Berlin. Since his captures did not believe him they locked him up in a cell and sent a letter to Berlin. However at that time Berlin has already been captured by the British and so no response was sent. And so he was given one more day but before they could kill him Munich was attacked by the British. However, His troubles did not end there after the War, My Oma, his girlfriend at the time, was living in Plauen (East Germany) and my Opa, was living in Munich (West Germany). They were living a happy life until Russian treat of new war, caused my Opa to fear that he would be forced to fight again. My Opa was a pacifist and the thought of war made him physically ill so they applied to move to Canada. And in 1955 were granted permission. However at the same time my Oma learned she was pregnant, and so they put off their plans till their first child, Christa Weber, Was born in December 1955. In 1957 my Grandparents and aunt finally decided to move to Canada. They packed everything they could fit into a few wooden trunks and suitcases and caught a boat to Canada. When they arrived my Opa immediately got a job at Westinghouse in Brantford, a large corporation the made televisions. He spoke no English and so took night school for English.
