I must have stood out like a sore thumb that day at the water drive. I was a Hispanic male in a predominately African-American region of Flint, Michigan, and naturally my presence on that cold April day sparked curiosity from every resident that had shown up. "Why are you in Flint?", I was repeatedly asked throughout the day as I loaded cases of water into vehicles. I always gave the short answer: I drove over 600 miles to Flint with 40 cases of bottled water because it was the right thing to do.
