Personal Narrative: My Life In Alaska

I remember when my nanny got the call. The call, that would change my whole future. My dad wanted my mom, sister, nanny, and myself to move so that we could be closer together as a family. Only, it wasn't just a town away kind of move; it was to another state, and you won’t believe where. This move was the both the best and the worst memory of school that I’ve had, here’s why.

The best memory I have from school is when I was 12, and my family decided to move all the way across the country to a state that many people stereotype about. I moved to Alaska. I can say that it was the best memory because I made so many new friends from all over the world and experienced something many people will never get the chance to do. Many of the friends I met were from other countries such as Japan,Thailand,Germany, and many more. Life in Alaska was the BEST.

I had to leave all the friends I’d made in Indiana. Plus, I also had to start at a new school, where I didn't know anyone, and the setup was completely

Growing up in Hawaii, you're faced with multiple fun opportunities. For my self born in Kamuela of the Big island, being in the center of the island opened up many doors to many different activities. I grew up on a long narrow road that had many bumps and pot holes up and down the entire road. At the top of the road there was a small grade hill that I would bomb with a skateboard. My house was about three quarters the way down the road.…

One of the first things I remember about going on that trip is looking down at my feet and thinking that I would die if I fell. I was nine and very light-headed at the time. It was the winter of 2009 and one of the first times I had ever gone to Colorado. The drive there took about 6 hours from our house so you can imagine my excitement at finally getting out of the car as an inpatient nine-year-old. We were renting a small two story log cabin with a hot tub on the second- floor balcony from a family that had a winter home somewhere in Florida.…

There isn’t anything more breathtaking than going Up North. If you’re not from Michigan you might be wondering, “Where up north?” In Michigan we use “up north” as a term for the upper half of the mitten, I’d say from the top of the thumb up. The UP (Upper Peninsula) can be considered Up North but normally it's just the UP.…

Growing up in Maine had so many advantages from the beautiful scenery to the unique qualities Mainers have. I can't say that I'm not blessed to have grown up in such a beautifully scenic place, but I can't say it's been easy. I'm originally from land-locked Indiana. I moved to Maine when I was younger with my parents and brother and as much as I love being from a different place it's been hard growing up without a close family in a state so closely tied together with their families. Growing up in Maine, especially Mid-Coast Maine, you know that all of the surrounding families have lived there for generations, everybody knows everybody, cousins go to school together, and siblings work together.…
