Personal Narrative: My Life In A Hospital

In front of the mass hospital building I wondered what would happen if I stepped inside. As I opened the door I felt the cold cool breeze of air rush against the hairs on my arm. And each hair would shout in satisfaction. Cough! Beep! Beep! I walked to the front of the counter desk, and the hospital would smell like mixed chemicals of cleaning supplies of all varieties. I would hear the noise of patients yelling, machines beeping, and children crying. The sound of the noise would echo from room to room. Then, a patient cried out to the nurse for help when he dropped his pillow on the ground. The reason he cried out for help was because he fractured his spine and it may take years before he could walk again. Furthermore, a certain hospital machine; to measure the rate of his heart beat was behind him while an I.V. was next to him on the left side of the bed. There was a variety of machines to help the patient. …show more content…
However, I would not say a hospital would be a place I enjoy, but there are times it may be. For instance, to go to the nurse’s office to receive checkups, shots and prescription. When taking a shot, it seems like the needle was a ion and I was a chihuahua. To receive a shot would not be pleasant because it would hurt- getting shots must be a ticket to a local health department. As we walk in to the Emergency section of the hospital, the building seemed to have a lot of new construction done to the outside. The siding of the building was as shiny as a new piece of tinfoil. As appealing as the outside of the hospital was, the registration area was not so appealing. The scene was one from a horror movie, where someone would be locked in a 5X5 room that seemed to be a torture chamber. The walls felt like you were in a tin can, claustrophobic and only one way out.…

Even though Marjorie mentions that the actual hospital was a dull place, she says that “it was a good place to work and the feeling was cheerful (Meijer Drees, 2013, p.64)” and gives off the idea that while the building was dreary, the atmosphere was a happy one. Meanwhile Marie’s whole story gives off an entirely different impression, one of fear and panic. From other staff not commenting on abuse to being denied closed windows the short story is powerful given its uneasy aura (Meijer Drees, 2013). This difference is closely related to one that is less noticeable. Mainly it revolves around patients have bits of fun during their stays in the hospitals.…

During my work in the public health arena with the Ottawa Civic Hospital, I experienced a leadership role while working with multiple stakeholders. While working with staff members at the hospital, I practiced transparency in conducting discrete negotiations in staff meetings. The challenge of communicating complex issues pertaining to health care required a multitude of leadership skills, which include the identification of common goals amongst partners while maintaining the alignment of objectives and resources. Working in a public health setting required patience, teamwork and interdependence, all of which encourage dedication to long-term and sustainable prevention. My leadership skills in this experience taught me the valuable lesson of…

On my way to Lexington for the second time, he called with this cryptic message.…

Scraping your knee on the sidewalk, getting hit hard with the basketball, falling off the monkey bars, these are just a few examples of ways you can get hurt at school. The worst case scenario is you would end up going to the school nurse as a result of an accident. Before first grade, suffering an injury was way out of the norm for me. The only time I got hurt in first grade, I bypassed the school nurse and went straight to the hospital. It was a scalding August afternoon, and I just finished another tiring day of first grade.…

As Lorrie Moore said in Why we read (and write) short stories, “we tell stories to find out what we believe”. Lorrie Moore’s People Like That are the Only People Here has an interesting analysis of the hospital setting. I find it particularly interesting how she uses the symbol of machines to talk about the people in the hospital and the process of being a parent of a child in the Peed Onk ward.…

Results Interview #1 I spoke with Tanya Mace for a long period of time to decide what I wanted to do I was really planning on doing my associates in nursing but after speaking to Mrs. Mace I have come to the conclusion that I am going to do the LPN (licensed practical nursing) program and decide from there if I get accepted into the ADN in program in august I am going to hold off until I finish the LPN program then maybe do the bridge program for my RN (registered nursing).I chose to speak with Mrs. Mace because she is my academic advisor and she works with students to help them make the best decisions for their career paths. Interview #2 In my second interview I spoke to several formal and current students to see if what Mrs. Mace had told me was true. After several of the formal students told me that they had tried the R.N program first and found it very hard to go straight into the nursing program and not doing the LPN program first, and not working in the field, they felt like they were always behind the rest of the students who had previous experience.…

I admired the nurse that took care of my aunt up to this day and hold them in high respect. I invested hours in their office whenever I visited my aunt in the moments of her surgery or to pick up her medicines. Few years later, I had been volunteering at a local hospital, this made me fully realize the hard work nurses put in their work line. My overall experience with the nurses that I encountered was positive. In my senior of high school, I took a course on health and human anatomy.…
