Personal Narrative: My Life At St. John Middle School

“Ah, but I was so much older then. I'm younger than that now”(Bob Dylan). When you are younger in life, you tend to believe you are better than you are. It is not until you are older that you can look back and realize there was much yet to learn. My perspective on life, illustrated through the lens of a backboard, exemplifies my growth as an individual.
Swoosh! A young boy about four feet tall with wavy, blonde hair erupts with joy as he watches the orange basketball slide through the rim of the basket. The child is bouncing the ball with both hands, displaying his lack of technique and poor form as he lines up and sails the ball through the rim of the basket. He knows that he is above average and the overconfident smirk on his face is perfect evidence. He is positive that he is the best player to play the game and does not need any help as he tosses up fade-away shots from far distances. The lack of structure in the child's game is evident in the one handed shots being thrown, but as the ball goes through the hoop, joy lights up the young child's face. Three, two, one. He shoots a fadeaway jumper right as the front door opens signifying it is time for him to come inside.

It is halftime in the hot, sweaty St. John middle school gymnasium. The young child has grown into a tall teenager who is putting on quite the show in the first half with a whopping twenty-four points. It is evident that he is still has the confidence as the young child in the driveway, however with another foot of height and more structure and technique to his game. Parents sparsely located throughout the stands, watching intently as their children learn to play the game of basketball. As the game progresses, the child displays his ability to dribble, make shots with both hands and pass the ball with precision. As the child runs down the court with time ticking down on the clock, he catches a pass and as he watches the clock run down to zero he takes his
