Personal Narrative: My Life At Lighthouse Christian School

Improved Essays
My life took a drastic change when I transitioned from a public to private school. I ended up at Lighthouse Christian School where I was taught to write research papers. It started with memorizing all the grammar rule and format that was expected from my English teacher, Mrs. Dennis Carroll. At first, I was timid to know the preparation and information before beginning to write a paper. Into one month of school, I received my first writing assignment was gathering background information on Martin Luther King Jr. On the inside, I felt incapable of trying to type a research that the teacher would be impressed involving creativity and interesting. In that moment, I realize I anticipated additional encouragement to fuel my thoughts and combining …show more content…
For this reason, I continued to ask for help until my parents decided to hire a tutor, Julie Grimwood. She would come to my house for two hours after school to help with my writing assignments. After several hours of practicing, I continue to use all the material I was explained to improve on each writing assignment. Then I had a second assignment requesting me to add specific details to capture the reader’s attention. The topic I choose was “Hispanic Traditions” to inform my teacher the culture I was raised in by my parents. When, I received it back the teacher commented expressing, “You spoke naturally which impressed me greatly.” I was immensely proud to know that I had written a research paper that impressed Mrs. Carroll. Throughout the years, while I was still a middle school student the requirements and grading scale continued to get challenging. The number of hours I spent typing felt eternal not knowing where to begin or how to …show more content…
The purpose of this learning process is to learn from your mistakes to keep improving on each of my assignments. Along the way, I enjoyed searching and reading examples which helped inspired me to create a message in each of my papers. Throughout the years, I can still remember the useful information I was taught from my teachers throughout middle and high school. If it were not for all the encouragement and helped I received my writing skills would not be the same. Although, I experienced many hours of hard work into writing a paper it has allowed me to prepare myself for college. Until this day, I continue to use the feedback from my professor last semester to continue to improve since there is always time for

I felt like was drowning in my own thoughts of discouragement. I have never written a research paper before and my teacher assumed she helped her class with understanding the route to take to start this paper. Classmates expressed their worries, while others talked about how they wrote and rewrote their papers countless times. That is the main point of Harrington’s article: to reassure her students that she has been there while giving them a dose of encouragement, just like her instructor did for her. This is what teachers are supposed to do in their own classrooms, instead of sitting on their desk checking emails.…

The semester before my freshman year I applied to an early college high school; I knew that I was going to have more work than if I had went to the traditional high school, but I knew I could do it. At first I was doing well, but as time went on the work became more challenging and frequent eventually my grades fell and took my pride with it. I wanted to transfer to the traditional high school in my neighborhood, but changed my mind after a talk with one of my professors. She helped me to recognize that if I quit not only would I be throwing away the work that I did do, but I’d also be preventing myself from seeing what work I could do. I took that seed of information and turned it into a tree of motivation.…

As I walked through the front doors of Allentown Central Catholic High School, I felt a sudden rush of panic. Everything I had once seen and had once been familiar with in middle school quickly vanished into thin air. I was terrified, not because I thought I was going to get lost, but because I knew that every little quiz I took, every little paper I wrote, and every exam I labored over would now count toward my ultimate goal of getting into a prestigious university. I wasn’t scared of new faces, but rather new beginnings and experiences.…

Two years ago during my junior year I was sitting in a cramped classroom filled with rowdy students when my English teacher assigned us a six page research paper. I would consider this research paper to be one of the hardest papers I had to write within three weeks. For most students three weeks is enough time to write a research paper unless you are like me who procrastinates often. Since my teacher gave us three weeks this gave me a great deal of time which brought a lot of distractions. My teacher was very helpful, she was always there to help us and she broke up the paper into smaller tasks with set due dates.…
