My time at Valley Forge was over, I had been fighting for general George Washington since the summer of 1775 and the victory on April 13 looked so far away because it was only late December, and it was seeming as if a turning point was unlikely. Do I stay and be loyal to my brothers or do I leave and never look back. I had to make my choice very soon, I could have left and the pain of seeing my brothers die , or I could stay and fight for my freedom such as many men had already done. The decision I made was to stay and fight for my country because many men had gotten sick, and I was a faithful servant to my country and I wanted to do what I came to the new world to do which was achieved my freedom .…

On a brisk fall day an hour or so after noon, my dad and I tried to conquer the trail known as Indian Hill. It was a fair temperature not too hot or not too cold but just right. As we trotted up the vast hill, apples were littering the ground and my dad was busting my chops about something that didn’t even matter or was irrelevant to anything; he does things like that. The light was being prevented to touch the brown rocky soil by the trees lined all in a row for miles it felt like. I could see light for the first time in 10 minutes and a massive field stretched for hundreds of yards.…

My much older brother had ventured to Philmont with our dad fifteen years before my trip, so as you can imagine, I grew up hearing stories of the 137,000 acre paradise perched within the Sangre de Cristo mountains in New Mexico. Philmont is a twelve day strenuous backpacking experience and not for the faint of heart.…

I’ve always loved fall, but I hardly ever stop and appreciate how lovely the weather is, or how beautiful the leaves are. I never sit outside and look at the sky, laying out and taking in the seventy degree weather. I realized this last year, and so I went on a trip with a friend to a place north of my small town. A place where there was an abundance of shedding trees, and small creeks, and walking trails. About one year ago, I was invited to go on a trip with one of my best friends.…

I thought being raised in Indiana was awful. Of all the places in the world I could be born, it had to be Indiana. I loved that Indianapolis was dubbed Naptown because it felt like such an appropriate name for a town that never has anything going on after sleep. I’d always hoped that I would grow up and go someplace new and live a more exciting and fulfilling life. However, my perspective all changed after my freshmen year when my family had the exciting opportunity to go on a vacation to France.…

It is sad that I can probably count the number of times I have been to recess on my hands because I was always in the office for fighting. Eventually the principal made it mandatory that I see the school counselor once a week or they would get my mother involved in possibly suspend me. With many sessions with the school counselor I opened up for the first time to someone about why I was feeling all this anger and wanted to fight people all the time/. Finally, she recommended that I try football because I could hit people without getting in trouble so I did just that. So my 7th grade year of middle school I began to play football. There I met one of my best friends to this day Garrett Graf, he went to the church that I currently serve in and is still to this day a Godly peer I look up to.…
