Like most young girls, I dreamt of being a veterinarian when I grew up. Of course, at first, little girls simply wish to be surrounded by "cute" animals, not understanding completely what the true position demanded. However as I grew older, while most girls my age had abandoned their childhood fantasy, the thought of being able to aid an innocent creature, unable to help itself continued to enthrall me. In school I studied biology and discovered a unique love for the subject, one in which I had never experienced with any other academic area before. Growing older still, I regarded the world around me and realized how great of a demand there was for all practices of doctors and scientists. Putting my two passions together, I knew what I wanted

My interest in the veterinary field began when I was six, when I arbitrarily announced I was going to be a veterinarian simply because I loved animals. Since I was quite young at the time, I was unaware what the job actually entailed. Consequently, I was somehow under the impression that if I watched National Geographic and Animal Planet, then I could immediately become a veterinarian upon graduating high school. I was undeterred when I realized just how much time that needed to be dedicated to school, and instead, it motivated me to take challenging classes in high school and to pursue a job at an animal hospital.…

Several minutes into surgery after the use of both a saw and bone cutters, I could feel the sense of satisfaction in the room as the tail was successfully amputated from the six year old German shepherd. Observing the surgeon, pleased by how the surgery had gone suture the skin around where the highly infected tail used to be I was once again reassured that veterinary medicine is the course I wish to study. l believe that being a vet is a diverse, challenging yet rewarding career, as there is no other career in the field of medicine that requires you to be an optician, surgeon, dentist and internist all in one day. Learning about animal conservation and the risks that the animals face in biology, has encouraged me as an individual to volunteer at a RSPCA charity shop assistant to raise money for vulnerable animals. My knowledge and animal handling skills have been broadened further due to my voluntary work at Hounslow urban farm, where I spend time alongside the vet…

For as long as I can remember, going to Texas A&M Colleges Station to become a Veterinarian has been my dream and goal. Having always enjoyed working with animals, small and large, I knew getting working experience would help me to achieve this lifelong goal of mine; I began to volunteer at a Veterinary clinic. It was very exciting working in an environment that I loved, and after a year of on the job learning the doctor hired me as a part-time employee. As time passed and I became closer to my co-workers, realizing not all of them shared the same beliefs or experiences as me. It was difficult at first to learn how to sustain my beliefs while respecting theirs, but I stayed strong and still have the same perspectives and feelings I began with.…

I think that what initially sparked my interest in the medical field was that my grandmother was a nurse.…

If one were to ask a young girl want she wants to be when she grows up, she would proudly say a princess, or maybe a rock star. I’ve never been the typical girl though and my answer was always different. Some days I wanted to be a dog trainer or a zookeeper and being a marine biologist wouldn’t be too bad. In middle school I realized what all these jobs had in common; animals. I knew whole heartedly that I wanted to work with them, to improve not only their health and welfare, but also that of the community they were in.…

I love her very much, so when I found a firm lump on her tail that was never there before I scheduled an appointment with Doc as soon as I could.…

Nearly 15 years ago, I was in the first grade being asked to draw the person I imagined myself to be when I grew up. My picture portrayed me and several different types of animals at a veterinary clinic with the explanation stating, “When I grow up, I want to be a vet because I want to help animals.” I grew up an only-child and was devoted to all types of animals as if they were part of my family. For as long as I can remember I have wanted to be a vet. As a child, I would pretend to do surgery by stitching together holes in my stuffed animals.…
