Personal Narrative: My Life As A Twin

Improved Essays
People say being a twin “must be amazing.” I have never heard a single person say otherwise. So now you must think I am of privileged few, a gem of reproductive success. I must tell you otherwise. That is not to say my experience as a twin has been bad. I would say quite the opposite. Life as a twin has been amazing. Ever since I can remember my twin brother and I have been inseparable. We obsessed over firefighters together, dreamed of being astronauts together, played on the same sports teams together, I do not remember a single time in my youth where I was ever a lone, he was always there.
But over time things change. The comfort of conforming to my twin lifestyle was becoming unpleasant. The attention I once adored was now a spotlight on my difference. I craved change, a new way of life, my own life. From the day I was born it has always been us, never him or I. My ambitions of branching out to play new sports, take new classes, and explore the unfamiliarity of independence had been crushed by the societal view of twins, that of complete similarity. But it was my ambition to be different. It began with the small things. I wouldn’t wear clothes with the same colors as my twin did on

He’s my bro, I love him dearly. We still hang out a lot, play with the same friends, laugh at each other's jokes, and are as close as we ever were, it is just that we no longer have the pressure we once did to constantly be the same and to play to the idea that twins are the same, because we are not. I neither look back in the past in scorn. I could not wish for a better childhood, a better family, a better twin brother. The days of dressing up as firefighters, weekly trips to the malls, and matching Star Wars costumes were amazing and I will never forget the moments we, but it is time to move forward. In the future, I hope to further discover who I really am; to become the real

I am a middle child. I was born two years after my sister Meredith, and Caleigh came six years after me. Within my family and friends, I am known as the quiet, quintessential middle child. For the first 16 years of my life, I was always an afterthought to the craziness of the first-born and the baby of the family, and I loved it‒ it made me independent and self-reliant. I was very comfortable being the easy-going child, happily accepting anything that came my way.…

A lot of people think just because you’re an identical twin, that you must be the same in every aspect of your life as the other person. In my case, and in others, being an identical twin doesn’t prove that we are the same in all areas of life. I have an identical twin sister, named Emily. Emily is pessimistic, high maintenance and very well organized. I, on the other hand, am more optimistic, open-minded and easygoing.…

If I had a twin it would be lots of fun. For an example, you could challenge them or they could challenge you and also help. They could challenge you (or challenge them) by playing sports, but you could help them with homework. Second, you could trick people or pretend you are one another. It would be fun to trick people by pulling pranks.…

Having a twin brother and having slight resemblance to him was the major source of my self-consciousness and agony throughout elementary and middle school. I was unaware that I would change my mannerisms and activities that I loved so I emulate his life. My twin refused to watch star wars or even play with legos, so I blocked off all my love and excitement from those activities so we would follow the same paths. I secretly wished that we looked more like identical twins than fraternal. I hated how he was much taller than me and that he did not need to wear glasses.…

We were the talk of the family, being the first set of twins born, in old photos we would always be surrounded by family members, one person would hold one twin and another person held the other twin. We both were chubby babies with light blonde hair and blue eyes, we looked like tennis balls. It was like a twin pack, you could not get one twin without the other. I am lucky to say I grew up in a loving Italian culture, where the community was always happy with one another.…
