Personal Narrative: My Life As A Small Town Girl

Improved Essays
I am a small-town girl that has amazing friends and even better family. When I get up in the morning, I hope to have a good day. It is the people I see everyday that make me happy. I do sports, Future Farmers of America (FFA), and Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA). Being from a small town gives me the opportunity to be part of organizations and I have gotten to experience some great things because of this.

My best characteristic is my attitude and motivation because I try my hardest when I do things. Having a great attitude will help to motivate you to do better 95% of the time. In volleyball, I have experienced when people have negative attitudes on the court and it only makes it worse for the team and that person. The team gets down and the person with the attitude most likely messes up. Being positive in situations is very useful because if you stay upbeat then you can rise to great things and open many possibilities.

I have gone to the same school my whole life and have been amongst the same people, which helped me grow comfortably and be more engaged in school activities.

Since being in FFA, I have done many activities and things I consider major achievements. My junior year, I was accepted to be in the state FFA choir and went to Washington Leadership Conference. I have also gone to state contests like poultry and dairy foods, which means I competed at state level competitions. For the past two years, I have been the top meat seller for my chapter. In school they give out GPA achievements and I have received two awards for having a GPA over 3.0. I have lettered in softball my last three years,

Another characteristic I demonstrate is leadership. One example of this is setting good examples such as not talking when the teacher is talking, participating in class activities, and doing my work. Whenever an argument is about to break out, I always try to stop it before it occurs. I’ve also done service before too (sort of). I collected all the…

Before high school, I always thought I was an average student, but when I transitioned into high school, people started to point out that I had potential. I began to work harder than I had ever before and I began to accelerate in every course. This never took a toll on me till the tenth grade, when my mental health started degrading. Anxiety was my first foe. During the beginning of the tenth grade, I had set high expectations for myself and it began to affect my life greatly For instance, after finishing the test, I would think about just one specific question that I thought I completed wrong.…

I was 13 years old, just starting off high school, when I realized what this dark cloud that’s been floating over me for the past couple of months really is. It wouldn’t be until more than a year later until I seek out professional help. It started off innocently enough as just a feeling of constant emptiness at the pit of my stomach. It slowly turned into randoms bouts of extreme rage, where I’d take out my anger physically, not just on the walls and mirrors of my childhood home and not just on my family, but on myself. I couldn’t understand why I felt this way, why I wasn’t “normal”.…

I believe that my personal background, and my success despite the adversity that I have faced is an essential part of who I am. The first of my struggles came from being born to two teenage parents without at least a high school education, and although my mother went on to get a GED and to college my father did not. Many people in my family had issues with substance abuse and addictions including my father. Although, I was raised by my mother and grandmother, my father’s actions and behaviors negatively impacted my life. My father was verbally and mentally abusive to the people around him, especially when he used alcohol.…

Being seen as someone people can look up to bring me as much happiness as when I encourage my friends. One of my reasons why I want to major in the computer science field when I go to college is to be a role model for more girls to take on careers in the STEM field. To put everything in smaller terms, I think of myself as a prime example of resourcefulness, creativity and optimism. I have been elected for various ASB officer positions since 3rd grade and have demonstrated all three of those traits under the leadership characteristic category as much as I possibly…

“Peyton are you ready to go catch a mamagal?” is just one of the many things I am asked from dad when the spawn is about to begin. My family has fished on Lake Sam Rayburn for many decades and I guess you could say it’s a tradition. We each have our favorite rods and reels and equipment that we believe is “lucky,” but sometimes it’s about more than luck. Nothing can compare to the wind that flowed through your hair as the boat darted across the water heading to your favorite spot. The smoky air was dense, as concentrated fog rose from the lake which made it hard to distinguish what was up ahead of you.…

Growing up, I lived in quite a few places as a result of my parents’ divorce. The neighborhood I lived most of my life, and still live in, is in New Market, Maryland. I live with my father on a tranquil golf course surrounded by large evergreens, close to a large lake known as Lake Linganore. I have always loved living here, especially when the wind would pick up and breeze through the trees and the crisp blades of the manicured grass. My favorite activity is to walk with my dog along the golfing path, and observe the scenery of the landscape with the forested mountains along the horizon.…

The Day I Grew Up Walking down the road to my first job was the day I realized my life had changed. My first real responsibilities were beginning and accountability was starting to crawl its way into my life. I would have to sacrifice countless hours of free time, hanging out with friends, and sleep in order to work. I relate to Schoonover because like her on the weekends, I would go to the lake with my friends and out to lunch with them. Also, since I acquired the job, I would need to start paying for necessities and extracurricular activities on my own.…
