I remember it vividly. Alto Saxophone in hand and standing behind the protective shield of my older sister, the bus pulled into our stop and opened it’s doors. Upon walking in I felt queasy, and distraught. My shyness was kicking in as I walked down the aisle of the over packed bus with limbs of children hanging out. My search for an open seat was concluded as there was not one to be found and with the bus driver’s patience running low, I was forced to squeeze in with another two children unknown to me. I would try calming my nerves and began to introduce myself when I was met with insult. Unbeknownst to me, I was sitting where the older kids were only allowed to sit according to some unwritten rule, and by doing so I sent an open invitation to the butt of the group's jokes, foreshadowing what I was to expect from the students at this new school. From that day on I sat alone, in the aisle, on top of my instrument’s case, not saying a single word. If I didn’t say anything, no one would notice me, and if no one noticed me, no one would bully
