I remember it vividly. Alto Saxophone in hand and standing behind the protective shield of my older sister, the bus pulled into our stop and opened it’s doors. I would try calming my nerves and began to introduce myself when I was met with insult. Unbeknownst to me, I was sitting where the older kids were only allowed to sit according to some unwritten rule, and by doing so I sent an open invitation to the butt of the group's jokes, foreshadowing what I was to expect from the students at this new school. Officially, starting from that day, my life was filled with elation and happiness. I never want to forget the time I started reading Maximum Ride. Starting off my day, I woke up from bed, gulped down some chow, and went back to sitting on my more than comfortable bed, reading the book of my future dreams: “Maximum Ride.” It was necessary to read this book, for a competition, called, Battle of the Books. My Ride-A-long was on Tuesday, November 28th from 7:00 am to 14:00 pm with the Police Officer Morton Campbell. When I got to the police department I had to wait for Officer Campbell for an hour. I took advantage of the moment and the Officer Jose Garcia took me to a mini tour of the area. During the wait a citizen came to make a report, Officer Garcia did not use codes but asked her some questions and said it was a lost property report. She went to report that she had lost her wallet, she had forgotten it on the bus, she realized that she had lost it a day later and she waited a week to report it.…

Overcoming Roller Coasters Everyone has an experience in their lifetime where they had certain expectations going into something, based on someone else’s thoughts or opinions that happened to be completely wrong. Sometimes it makes the experience better, sometimes worse. I personally had an event be completely different than my mind set, but in my case it was truly for the better. I think it really comes down to what I did to do well, the criticism I received on subjects that need tweaking, and occurrences that withhold me from getting the one. In my qualifying events (DI, POI), I seriously tried my hardest to practice and I know that I could’ve done even better.…
