Most little girls dream of being a ballerina when they grow up, I was the little girl who dreamed of medical school. Anyone who was brave enough to ask got my vehement no when asked if I thought that the college, subsequent medical school, and training would be too much school or that I would get bored. I decided very early that to be a doctor was one of the most exciting things that a person could chose to be and my fantastic pediatrician was the initial spark for this love of medicine. The care that I could see him exhibit in his daily operations as well as the ease at which he interacted with patients and parents alike inspired me. His knowledge was fascinating and I longed to have that level of understanding of the human body.…

Moreover, this has taught me to becoming the dedicated, hard-worker I remain today.…

During my junior year of high school, the Advanced Health class was required to research a career. For this project, we were instructed to interview an individual with a job in the career we desired. As I collected the responses from my interview with the pharmacist, she indicated that most of the skills and qualities necessary to be successful in this field were those she felt I possessed.…

I watched her being constantly provided with, and utilising different creams and hydrocortisone steroids for her skins, along with phototherapy, and started questioning the reason why certain medication and treatment work for her, while others seem to generate the opposite. As a result, I developed a keen interest in medicines and their production. During my week of work placement at Ashington Way Pharmacy, my recognition for pharmacists and their integral role in society has increased substantially; I was able to observe on a first-hand basis the skills that come with their role as a pharmacist. For instance, the procession of prescriptions, and checking whether the correct medication is being dispensed, are fundamental skills a pharmacist should possess. Additionally, during private consultations, I have learned that while it is important for a pharmacist to be knowledgeable, he/she has to be able to project an aura of reliability and confidence in order for the patient to feel secure, and in extension, improve their lives.…

Dr. Boyd spent 2 hours introducing the industry of nuclear pharmacy to me and went through his job description and duties. Through my experience, I learned that although nuclear pharmacy also works with drugs, it is a whole lot different from other pharmacy settings. The major differences that set nuclear pharmacy apart are the type of drug the pharmacy carry, the size of the industry, operating hours and schedules, the delivery system the pharmacy run, and the type of customers they interact with.
