Kayleigh Underwood All throughout my life, I have faced many challenges. Some were more difficult than others, but I believe all of them have shaped me into who I am today. If I could take one lesson I learned in high school and never forget it, it would be that my challenges and the outcomes to these challenges do not define me. What defines me is how I respond to these challenges.…
The 12 step meeting that I attended was an over eaters anonymous. When I arrived, I was greeted openly and the people were very friendly. I had to announced who I was and the purpose of me being there. I was surprise that I was accepted as part of the group. The group had given several pamphlets and invited me to attend their weekly meetings.…
I interviewed Jerry, Faith Green, Paul, Ms.Darshan, and Mr. Hanke. They were all very helpful because Faith and Jerry were IPoly students and I felt that I could really relate to them because I still haven't decided what I'm going to be. Ms. Darshan explained to us that we need to be responsible for our selves and that some textbook prices vary because they all cost a lot. Paul gave us advice in if we weren't sure what we are going to do we should find a common class that the careers I want to pursue have in common. Mr. Hanke told us that we need to stay focused in school because some people who try different things and don't get into it change who they want to be very quickly.…
My high school community is unique and incredible in that it is inclusive. It was the best decision of my life to attend Xaverian Brothers High school, despite what failures I encountered. Entering high school my grandmother had just passed away and my family was in a large feud; I was lost and had no confidence. The community my high school established allowed me to find my niche and gain confidence. I discovered in high school that I am a service oriented and extremely driven student.…
I was born in 1984 and started school in 1989. Watching the movie The Bottom Line in Education 1980 to the Present, gave me a perspective of the Education system while I was growing up. I didn’t realize what my teachers and educators were subjected to. As a child I was very naive, which is what I was supposed to be. I never thought that my school was overcrowded or operating below any standards.…

1. An eager and motivated learner takes on the initiative to progress through their studies, without the need to be prodded along by either external rewards, or outside individuals. This type of learner looks at the long-term goals/effects of their education, and presses on towards them no matter the apparent obstacles or shortcomings. 2. Two Personal Strengths as a Student: Even when not asked to, I seek out additional tools to help me study in a more effective, streamlined, and organized way as I embark on my learning journey. I look for ways to improve my future works, both from peer feedback and personal assessments on my current works.…
All my life, I’ve been aware of the people around me and considered what I could do to make their lives more fortunate. With this interest in mind, I joined the Anti-Bulling Club (ABC) at my school in the 6th grade, eventually becoming ABC president in the 10th grade. As president, my biggest priority was to make my school a place where students were welcomed to engage in discussion unafraid of what might be said; I tried accomplishing this goal by getting volunteers to hold the doors and greet peers to school each morning. Through creating this inviting atmosphere, students participated in more constructive conversation, leading to provoking questions that even teachers could not answer. When I transitioned to community college life in the…
I currently work at East Los Angeles College for the First Year Experience (FYE) Adelante program. One of my job responsibilities is meet individually with a caseload of 100 students once per semester. Since I did start my GA in the summer right after finishing the summer semester, I have had the opportunity to meet with students one on one. At first I was really nervous because I was thrown right into it. I did not have any training because of sudden change of location and director of the program.…
Walking into the class, I felt it was a welcoming learning environment. The students bombarded me upon my first arrival with many questions about who I was and…
My interview was done in a first-grade classroom at Christopher House Belmont Craigin also called the Stewart Campus. I change the community I live in for the better by participating in numerous leadership and service opportunities. I serve my church community by altar serving during mass which encourages other youths to participate during mass. I also traveled to Kentucky through my church with a mission trip. In the week I was serving, my group and I were stationed at a park and delegated the task of cleaning and beautifying the area for the community to use and enjoy. My school has also presented me with many leadership opportunities.…
Road to Literacy As a literate person, I could not begin to envision a world in which I could not read or write. Literacy is such a vital part of my life, it is the backbone to everything that I am. My life was forever changed the moment I read my first picture book. Literacy enables me to create, learn, and expand my horizons and gives me the ability to have a voice.…
My involvement in school ranges from volunteering at the Bridge Minstry, Non-Food Trick-or-Treat, Relay for Life, Habitat for Humanity, Student Government Association, amongst other services to working as an Academic Success Coach for freshman students who did entirely do well for their first semester in regards to grades. Moreover, my reason for pursing a career in nursing is mainly due to my father in consideration that he has metabolic syndrome, diabetes and heart disease. Because I grew up with my father having to go through open heart surgery, monthly doctor apponitment, as well as constantly taking medications, I knew that I wanted to enter a healthcare profession where I could better understand my father's condition as well as promote…
